Voting for Inaugural Sparkys to Open Monday

Lynchburg, Va.

Just one day after the ESPYs are awarded, Liberty fans will have the opportunity to select the best athletes and moments from the past year in Flames athletics. Voting for the inaugural Sparkys will commence Monday, with the first of five categories, Biggest Win.

Sparkys will be awarded in five categories. In addition to Biggest Win, the Best Individual Performance, Best Newcomer, Best Female Athlete and Best Male Athlete from 2006-07 will each be honored. Each winner will be determined through fan voting on the Flames Poll, the newest addition to LibertyFlames.com. The Flames Poll is located on the right-hand side of the main page of LibertyFlames.com.

Each category’s poll will be active for a week, after which time the winner will be announced and the next category opened. A full voting schedule appears below.

The five nominees for Biggest Win will be announced Monday. Watch LibertyFlames.com for the announcement and cast your vote!

that is awesome. If nothing else, it shows somebody is coming up with new ideas.

I wish it could have been called The Flame Awards or something. Sparky makes me think Dundy which makes me think of the Office which makes me giggle.

I like Sparky (since I happened to come up with the name despite getting torched on the old board for it). I am glad they are doing this. It is a great idea. Can't wait to vote. It will also drive traffic to the site which eventually will get some ad revenue perhaps.

I love the idea and don't take this as criticizing the awards at all, but who does our graphic work for the site?

I get the feeling the SIDs have seen how bored we are this summer and they are shrewdly giving us something to talk about. Kudos for stepping out of the box.

I do graphics for Resident Recruitment. The only graphic I have done for the LibertyFlames website is the "Ask the Ad" art.

I do like the Idea of the awards, but I dont like the name either, I love Sparky, but i just think naming awards something like that sounds dumb, and I bet the same guy I think made that terrible picture came up with that stupid name.


Last but not least, are anyone elses "View More Emoticons" not showing up when you open the link?

Although maybe they intended for it to be similar to a Dundy where it's got comedic value. I'm not sure, b/c if they wanted it to be taken seriously wouldnt they just have called it Liberty University's Men's Player of the Year?

EDIT: I wanted to explain what I mean. Another words 20 years from now will they be holding a banquet for these or is it just something to pass the summer along.
