The Rev. Jonathan Falwell is the new pastor of Lynchburg’s Thomas Road Baptist Church.

Falwell, 40, succeeds his father, the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, who founded the 21,000-member church nearly 51 years ago.

Falwell Sr., who died May 15, was the only pastor the church had ever known.

He was the founder of both the church and Liberty University.
Several thousand church members who gathered for a called business meeting elected Jonathan Falwell pastor Sunday evening on a unanimous vote.

Did anyone see the "Live from Liberty" from Sunday, May 27? It was really moving.

Yes, it was very moving...more so than the funeral as you knew it had only been 5 days since Jerry's death. Jonathan held it together very well. It's going to be exciting to watch what God has planned for TRBC and LU with the Falwell boys in charge. For those of us old hags who knew Jonathan as a kid, it's just another example of how God can use ANYONE regardless of their past :D

I knew him somewhat as a fellow student at LU and that last comment certainly applies to me, topcat86.
