The congregation of Thomas Road Baptist Church is expected to formally decide Sunday evening whether the Rev. Jonathan Falwell will become the church’s new permanent pastor.
Falwell, 40, would succeed his father, the Rev. Jerry Falwell, who died suddenly May 15 at the age of 73.
Falwell Sr. had been the only pastor the 51-year-old church has known.

Baptists vote about everything. Except for dinner plans -- never anything other than Fried Chicken.

I know that's typically true, but I've seen some Baptist dynasties too.

yeah, i've been on both sides. current church they vote on everything all the way down to ushers. we have committees, and then they vote on some stuff, but everything major is brought before the church

I expect he will be elected by "acclaimation", but that won't mean that everyone thinks he should be pastor. I'm sure there are those who feel other candidates should be considered, but as it stands there are no other candidates. It was clearly what Jerry had set in motion, and I have to believe, son or not, if he had any doubt that Jonathon was the right man he would have moved things in another direction. For me, the only other man I would have considered as an option wouldn't be able to do it now for health reasons.

I think Jonathan is already doing a great job...He seems to be very level headed about the whole thing...I like watching him on TV.

Jon, it's amazing to be how many people have a hard time spelling our name's. It's pretty simple. They always try to make it harder than it really is.

Because there are common variations on spelling in America today. Not all take the Biblical spelling.
