We always joke that FlameFans is like a family. Well, it's time now to act like one.

What alumni are coming in town for the funeral? Does anyone need a place to stay? Does anyone have extra space so that someone will be able to pay their respect to the man we all loved?

Everyone knows hotel rooms are going to be booked big time. If we can help each other with this, I think that we should.

I've had conversations with people about who's coming in (and I have been told W is for what it's worth) but I didn't feel like it was the best thing to discuss on here. If people want to discuss it, then go ahead, I'll jump right in. I just felt like we needed a thread to help people, whether registered on the board or just a lurker, out. LU's a family, that's what families do.

I was planning on coming down for the July 4th celebration but I was able to make some changes at work. I should be there Monday and Tuesday.

You know I'd love to be there, but its just not practical. And just try to get a flight into Lynchburg Monday or Tuesday. I dare you.

And I would be shocked if Dubya weren't there. I'm hearing his parents are probably travelling to Lynchburg from here in Houston. I'd expect Billy Graham and a who's who of Evangelical leaders to pay their respects.

If we're talking about people that will be there, here's some who I think:

Both Bush's
Nancy Reagan
McCain
Gingrich
Larry Flynt (I'm serious. The stuff he's been saying on the news makes it seem like he may come into town)
Someone mentioned Sharpton coming in tomorrow
I think Shaq will come in. Him and Jerry seemed to develop a relationship over the past few years.

Sharpton has been AMAZING. He's ticked me off lately with the junk he's been pulling but honestly he has been one of my favorite 'celebrities' talking about the Doc. I've been very grateful for how he's handled the media on this. He's always pointed out the Doc that we know. I'm thankful to him for that. So many others are beefing with the Doc's positions... Sharpton says things like "He cared for the bell hops and executives the same." He's been great.

Add both grahams to your list too. I wouldnt be surprised of more of the republican candidates didnt come out as well. It used to be said you cant get to the whitehouse unless you stop by Jerrys house, this might be the last time for that. My parents were sort of close to Jerry but neither of them can make it so Im staying around another week to go for them. Im hoping to try and get to TRBC early enough to be able to be at the actual funeral and not the overflow areas.

Yeah i watched some of what sharpton was saying, im really glad that so far the big liberal names havent been to quick to trash him. I also just finished reading mel whites responses, for the most part it was good, but i dont know if some of his things were jokes or if he was genuinly angry that falwell died.

I plan on being there but I may have an interview that was supposed to take place this week but got postponed to next week. Not sure of the exact day and time but I will make sure I am there for this. I hear a few ex NFL players from the 80's like Kelvin Edwards will be there. Jon and Jerry Vines will be in town. Jon is a great friend of mine and I can't wait to catch up with him. Jerry Vines may be preaching the funeral but I am not sure. As you can see I am having trouble sleeping with this 4 AM post.

I don't think its wrong at all.

In fact, I think the LAX team, wrestlers, hockey and FB teams would be glad to assist. Probably the paint ball club too.

I will be there. I don't need a place to stay though, but thank you anyways. I'm not staying over night. I'm coming up on Sunday for the viewing, and I will be there Tuesday.

If you want sports names. Terry Bradshaw may as well. If you recall (some dont know this) but Terry lived with Jerry when he went through a really hard divorce for a few weeks.

Oh, I also saw someone say the Bush's wont be here. They will be.

LUconn, it came out I think Tuesday night that Westboro was gonna be there. Check Facebook, there's already a group of people trying to figure out how to stop them.

I say let em do it. Jerry would just laugh at em and call em silly and go on about his way. He might honk his horn at em, but mainly I think he'd just laugh.

We carry ourselves with class, don't get into any altercations with them, and we come out portraying everything Jerry stood for.

as long as they're on public ground, I can't imagine them being stopped. I think the best meathod is to ignore them. Either that or throw bucket after bucket of water on them as you keep driving by. Is that considered some form of assault?
