Students urged to be aware of fire safety rules
by Erin Fitch, News Reporter
When 189 students were evacuated from a burning dormitory on the campus of Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va. on April 14, questions were raised about what college students can do to prevent such calamities at their residences.
Although officials declared the source of the dorm fire to be the basement, no known cause has been determined. Students at Liberty are cautioned to be aware of the measures used to prevent fires, especially in light of the number of fire incidents that have occurred in the Lynchburg area.
do they really still enforce the "no hot plate" rules? Not that its a bad idea- just don't know how you keep an eye on that many rooms.

That just points out the tremendous need for a comprehensive on-campus EMS and First Reponse system
(beat Medic to it).

Our friend Rubbermallet had a George Foreman in Dorm 11. One night we were cooking spam on it and the smell filled the entire dorm. Apparently our RA's were not too bright because they never figured it out.

in the quads we have kitchens, and in those kitchens are smoke detectors that are set off on a regular basis.
i'm not sure, but i think the fire alarm is broke in our dorm. lightening struck the dorm last week and set off teh fire alarm, and now it beeps all the time. i think they just disabled it or something. idk, but it doesn't sound too safe to me

I've read this thread through (and a few others pertaining to the rules and regs. at LU, and can't help but chuckle. Through the powers of deductive reasoning, it appears that...
..."out of wedlock sex" might (or might not) get you tossed
...having half naked girls and booze in your rooms might (or might not) get yout tossed;
...but God forbid if you get caught with a hot plate, George Foreman Grill, or Fry Daddy in your room.
It's a crazy mixed up world we live in.

Mmmm.... SPAM. You may be the only person outside my family I've ever seen refer to it without prejudicial disgust.

I have never tried Spam in my entire life. I feel like I am missing something, but really don't care to find out.

SPAM (or TREET) as it is marketed down south, is great fried up and on a sandwich (with mayo, of course).

Only one thing worse than Spram or Treat, and that's SCRAPPLE. They don't even eat that stuff in West Virginia.

First, Spam and Treet are not the same thing. Treet is a cheap imitation - Ham-flavored turkey or something.
Second, scrapple isn't even in the same class as Spam. Unless I'm mistaken, scrapple is an amalgamation of various internal organs, sort of like potted meat. Spam, on the other hand, is just spiced ham.

Correct, MrMac--Treat is a poor man's version of Spam. They are now even making a product called "Spam Lite" (talk about an oxymoron).

Spam is actually shoulder of pork. There's not enough meat there for it to be an actual cut so they just throw all that meat together and slap it in a can.
