Does anybody know where the closest one is? My dogs need socialization as they appear to hate all other canines. I found a list on dogpark.com but it said there were like 100 in Alexandria, and 2 in Va Beach. I don't trust that list.

LUconn, for a serious answer, I was eating dinner at Country Kitchen tonight and saw a poster for a dog walk this Saturday at Peaks View Park: like where a bunch of dog owners come together for a walk or a march.

Another option is to go to Blackwater Creek trail in Lynchburg. There are always people there walking their dogs.

Because I wouldn't give em back. I want a dog pretty bad, but we haven't had the money to build a fence here and I won't keep a dog chained up.

My high school baseball coach ate cat once.

He's from Grayson County though, it's understandable.

amen. i mean... who dodges a cat in the road?! def. not me.

i dont think i'd be ok with eating one though. i'd probably "hock" up more than a hairball if i did.

Yet another thing our city doesnt spend money on. Black water Creek is OK but I want a fenced in area where he can run free and chase and bite other dogs. This city seriously lacks a lot of things including dog parks, nice sports complexes for soccer, softball and other things.

the closest dog park is in roanoke. it is called fishburn park. very nice, and it just opened. it is a probationary thing to see if it will work. we had two large dog parks when i lived in rqaleigh and they were flat out awesome. plenty of room for the dogs to run unleashed. if you want to sociaize your dogs, take them to petsmart and just walk up and down the aisles. i know a lot of people who have done that. my two dogs had socialization issues, and after a training class with other dogs and trips to the pet store, they are great now.

that dog whisperin guy is top notch. a little odd, but that show is fairly entertaining. he get's it done.

yeah, one of those shows where you've been watching it for half hour and didn't even mean to be (i.e. cooking channel). haha.

I've actually read the first half of that book but I havent been able to get back into it to finish recently. I watch his show sometimes and he is absolutely amazing. But his book is more of an autobiography. It doesn't really help you in training other than some vague descriptions of how he does what he does. At least it hasnt so far.

Yeah, the first part is like that. Keep reading & you'll find what you are looking for. I guess he took the approach of letting the reader know where he comes from & how he learned, to tie in what he does later in the book. There is a part in there that talks specifically about dog parks.
