Yeah right, what a disgrace! Radford and no LU

I don't think most of the other colleges in VA are even aware of LU's size anymore. It's going to take a while for people to get used to thinking of us in larger terms. I'm okay with that.

Good heavens do you guys have to take EVERYTHING as a dig on LU? Gosh, these people are mourning and these folsk are trying to show support in whatever way they can...the fact that you use this as a chance to say how he is trying to take a dig at LU by including Radford in it sickens me...(and I know that some of you are trying to make a joke , but there are certain things you should not joke about)

I think we're the only D1 school in the state not in the picture... It's safe to make mention of that. I don't know that it was a dig as much as an oversight... and we're not a 'state' school like the others listed...

It's cool though b/c I've been impressed with how much the LU community has done to show their support and love for our friends at Tech. Everyone from Administration to students and alumni have shown their love for humanity through this tragedy.

Take it easy DJBJ, I think Hampton was left out too. We already have a thread about the seriousness of this incident. This one is about that cartoon.

PS It's nice to know that I sicken you though.

The amount of Maroon and Orange on campus today is nuts. If we could only get the student body to wear red to games like they're wearing Hokie colors, we'd have a serious sea of red.

Anyways, cool to see the student body representing/supporting another school body in a time of mourning. Working in the housing office, I see a lot of people come through and a number of VA Tech students are staying on campus as a refuge. I'm sure they're getting a warm welcome.

Dude. I was not in any way saying it was a dig or slam on LU. I was just pointing out that a logical reason for us being left out of the picture is that most people the in Virginia education community don't yet realize how large LU is now. We've grown in ways that people who aren't keeping an eye on the school probably haven't noticed.

That's all I was saying. I get the illustration and I think it's great.

Also, I would like to point out the IRONY that the cartoon shows what looks like all of the mascots praying and laying their hands on the hokie, both very biblical actions, and the only evangelical school was left out. Not saying we were slighted, BJ, but that it's ironic.

Is it possible the cartoonist did not know which Mascot to draw for LU?

BTW...Norfolk St and Longwood were the other D1 schools left off

I don't know, I'm pretty sure the GMU mascot he drew is a caveman.

You can't say it's all publics because Richmond is there.

LU, Hampton, Norfolk St, and Longwood are the D1's left off. Radford's only on because they're so close.

It was weird seeing Coach Rocco in a VaTech sweatshirt.

Maybe having an LU Eagle next to a VT turkey would have been too confusing. Someone would have yelled FOWL! :P

Look for maroon sweatbands on the players at the spring game.

Found this, is there a way to add this to the front page of FlameFans for a bit?

No. There isn't. At least I hope there isn't.

Sorry, the commercialization of this is bugging the crap out of me.

I, too, also am not a fan of the "commercialization" or oversaturation of the situation...but with LU being a fellow Virginian school not that far in distance from VT with undoubtedly some VT alum currently at LU (in studies or on staff), I am down with a small understated avatar placed on the site as an homage to LU's neighbor.

For me, that doesn't cross the exploitation or commercialization line, yet I can respect your POV. It would be interesting to see what the general consensus of the rest of the board is.

If you were on Facebook and/or Myspace and saw the amount of people who have pictures up of "Today We Are All Hokies" and the ribbon or whatever, I think you would better understand my point of view. I'm just tired of hearing about this everywhere I turn.

I understand and sympathize with your POV for the most part; I have avoided MySpace and Facebook like the plague in the spirit of non-conformity so I have not seen that oversaturation.

So you are tired of hearing about VT - just dig a little deeper big guy.

I'm tired of hearing about people trying to be "holier than thou" by one-upping each other in their tributes. I'm tired of people asking the students if they're mad at the administration. I'm tired of the way this thing has been handled in the media.
