Jdub just told me they're going up to $500 next year. Is that true?

That's freakin ridiculous.

That's a price increase of 1000% over two years.

Where's the money going? It certainly isn't to repave any of the roads. Going the back way around the soccer field and by the baseball field is like going off-roading. They filled in a few pot holes but it's still horrible.

that is pitiful. there is hardly any parking to begin with for commuters.

Super, I've got the paperwork in my office, so I'll check it tomorrow, but that figure doesn't sound right at all.

I'm interested to see what the actual price is versus what's been said, if this came from Facebook.

Having said that, even though I do think that's pretty steep, it makes a lot of sense to me. If you want pavement and parking, it's got to come from somewhere. Even if that's not what it's for, it could be that they're simply trying to drive down demand by raising the price.

demand isn't going to go down though, were just going to have to pay more. when i heard that, didn't even think about not bringing my truck, i just thought about how mad my dad is gonna be

If it goes up to 500 I will not be paying that....that is out of control....but because this came from facebook I will just wait and see about this one....

Interpret it how you want, but I maintain that it could be a legitimate tactic to try and get students to bring fewer vehicles on campus without having to resort to a "no freshman cars" situation like some schools do.

Like I said, you can't have it both ways. We could fill several printed pages with all of the complaints about parking that have been posted to this board. Several new parking lots have been built this year at North Campus, and if you want to see anymore, I suspect they're going to have to collect some money.

If it's really $500, then I do agree that it's steep, but I have yet to hear that price quoted from an official source.

its still cheaper then big state schools....but for some reason that doesn't make me feel any better

Forgive my ignorance, but how many years ago did they start allowing freshmen to have cars on campus? I know back int he late '80s it wasn't allowed due to all of the parking issues.

If I recall, it was in the late 90s. I want to say '97 may have been the first year freshmen were allowed cars, and even then you really had to work the system, if I recall correctly.

why don't they have a freshmen rule anymore?? A lot of medium to large colleges have that rule...I guess they think it would scare kids away or something....but its really the easiest solution

not true SJ, in fact they are going to offer more options such as discounted lots that arent used to their ability for rates significantly less then the $300 now.

As far as the "where's the money going" question....parking doesnt cover half of what we're doing on campus for traffic etc. Keep in mind we're not just "fixing holes" or laying down new pavement. We're also building multi million dollar tunnels to help out with the traffic, a perimeter road to help out with the traffic...and many many other projects

so in short that's not going to happen, and get all these idiots on facebook to contact me and I'll point them in the right direction if they want more info on the subject. And if anything changes I'll let you know.

I've never known a time when freshmen weren't allowed to have cars. I had one as a freshman in '93 and there was no indication to me at the time that that was a new thing.

That wont happen for quite some time...in fact we just did a interview with the Champion about this...so SJ you should go there for a lot of your answers....but in short Freshman are only allowed to park in lots so remote on campus they wouldnt be used if Freshman were not parking there...

They'll whine about that but I think it's a good thing.

I have morning classes so parking isn't an issue for me anymore unless I have to come back for a meeting. I'm rarely on main campus after 10:30.

I still think we should turn the parking lot by David's Place into a brand new baseball stadium and turn the current stadium into a parking lot. Just flip the two. The new lot would get used twice as much as the current one.

Thats one of the lots they are looking to do a discounted parking decal on

You answered your own question. LU's number one priority is recruitment, and there's no way they're going to do anything to scare potential students away.

I guess you don't recall, because none of that was right. The only thing I ever had to do to "work the system" in the 90's (even as a freshman) was stand in line to buy my parking pass.
