Just thought I'd take note of the fact that despite the fact we have been online now for less than two months, today we reached triple digits in registered users and eclipsed the 6k mark in posts.

Despite our weekend hosting issues, we are beginning to get our legs underneath us here on FlameFans. I can assure you that I have some big plans for the site that I hope to begin to implement in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, keep spreading the word so we can build the community.

I just stumbled across this site...can't remember how, but it was a link I think from somewhere. I think it's great to get Flames fans together and talk. I've learned several things just by reading the posts. It's nice to have Proto on board who can give us heads up on upcoming promotionals too. I already sent the address to a friend of mine and told him he needs to register and get online. I'm excited to see Flames athletics growing and I want to be a part of it. I attend as many games as I can and buy as much merchandise as I can afford. Looking forward to seeing this site grow.

SLY I had the same thought looking at the front page this afternoon- we've had moments where we got borderline outta control but I'm proud to say we managed to bring it back from the edge.

Speaks to the caliber of people on here, I think.

And we're all looking forward to the rest of the site as you bring it along!

Having read, well ok, I did skim some, of the thread regarding why LU can't get top tier athletes, I was impressed by the level of civility of the discussion. Many boards would have denigrated to vulgarity. I just wanted to tip my hat (NY Yankees by the way :)), to everyone for making this a place to have intense dialog and yet keep it civilized. To me, it shows the quality folks that are LU students, alumni, and fans.

Is it permissible to post a flyer on the campus bulletin boards letting folks know about this site? I'm sure SJ could create something cool, but I'm not sure of what the policy is up there for hanging things up.

 Great job SJ, but somehow I don't think that would stay up very long.

Let them be pulled down. They're only an inch tall so you can put 11 on a sheet of paper and keep putting them back up.

Perserverence.

Well, a goal of ours has always been to stay unfiltered by the school. So far it's worked but there was a messageboard my senior year (it was more social/discussion. no sports) and it was blocked after about a month.

I like the idea of an uncensored, real and raw approach to the site. After being out in the "real world" its nice to reflect without the nauseating "over the sholder" routine that LU could stand to relax and let the students live...I mean have a few of the underlying groundrules (like most schools), have your product (an education from a christian worldview, but also fosters intellectual and academic freedom within that framework) and allow the students to work out who they are in those crucial formative years at school without the accompanying babysitting atmosphere (although I must say, it appears as if that mentality has seemed to wane in the last couple of years as they have embraced a more professional approach to their business model--case in point, the convos in the late 90's with wrestling characters, et al, not exactly a shining moment for a brochure.)

The movement from a church camp feel, to a bona fide academic institution has been nice to see, while retaining the uniqueness of the spirit of LU.

LUconn remembers when we were still in our formative days back on the old Firehouse. We had several discussions going that while often entertaining and liberating were the types of discussions that might put us in position to be blocked from servers on campus. We decided back then that we would try to avoid anything that could keep students from having access to us. Self-censorship? Perhaps. But it has allowed us to remain active on campus and actually be embraced without having to compromise our rather lively discussions. I like keeping this policy in place for the better good of the board.

I suppose I should clarify my vernacular to: hoping the forum retains a free exchange of ideas, absent of a "this is the party line" filter instead of "raw"...I was trying to imply the idea of a forum that would foster and promote a place where open honesty and candidness could flourish, even if it goes against the "party line"...back in the medieval days, only the jester could tell it like was to the king without fear of losing his life because of his medium--criticism cloked in humor. Healthy criticism and appreciation are good checks and balances for all organizations to consider.

continued...

not that it all has to be criticism either by any stretch of the imagination...just bringing light to the point that it is good for an organization to analyze itself to produce the best product it can.
