I need a new one. Ideas? I'm willing to get into a new profession if anybody has any good ideas. Not willing to get more schooling though. I'm done with that forever.

I'm with you on this pal. In fact I'm currently looking for a new job myself. I hated my old one. I think for me though more school is required. Although I loved Liberty, sometimes I wonder if I should have gone to a technical school to learn computers, graphics, or something that is really specialized.

I've got a BS in business specializing in finance (also did management but you can't officially do 2) Right now I work in life insurance doing work that any highschool drop out or trained monkey could do. I'd rather not relocate at the moment, but if the right opportunity came up, who knows.

I too have a BS in business. I have looked into NC actually. I like it down there, seems to be a lot more opportunity for jobs than here in ole L'burg. I'm in the National Guard as a personnel sergeant and have done civilian work as an account manager for a call center and a fulfillmet house. I like the Burg as far as it being a nice place to live, just doesn't seem to have many job opportunities.

Hey LUconn, you work for one of the two big insurance boys in the Burg? I tried several times to get on with Nationwide, but they always went with an internal candidate.

Yeah, I work for Genworth. Superb benefits, terrible pay, boring work. Right now it's 2 vs 1 saying I go elsewhere.

I tried there too, but nothing. I came to the conclusion that the Lord didn't want me in the insurance industry. Although I had always heard Nationwide paid better.

i just left the triangle and moved to roanoke. i know it sounds stupid. i accepted a job with a company i used to work for that is based in lynchburg. the triangle has a great job market, but the cost of living is high and traffic really sucks as the infastructure lags behind.

life PHS. I took the job back when GE Financial had a "18 month" requirement before you could move around within the company. But Genworth's policy is 24 months. That really ticked me off. I really just wanted do my time here and get to something better or a little higher up. But I think you may have to move to Richmond. That' seems like where all the good jobs are.

I was thinking about the Greensboro area. Visited Charlotte once, but I hate traffic. Roanoke even seems to have more jobs than Lynchburg. I think the lack of an interstate hurts us.

I agree that Richmond seems to have many jobs, but I just wouldn't want to live there. I have a friend who moved there though and is working for Nationwide and making decent $.

Gotcha....i am in New Business. That 18 month rule exists over here but doesn't in a sense. i am on my forth position in 19 months. They just developed a coordinator postion over here, which i just got ( i think i am the youngest one) I know some people over here that used to work in PHS, i would try a lateral move if you could first. While Richmond is an option ( i checked into it as well, before accepting this position two weeks ago), you gotta have a good reference and the interview is something you gotta take time off for and pay for or do by phone. Its a lot more laid back over here than over there from what i gather.

LUconn, if you stick with Genworth long enough it will all payoff, the great thing about them is they wont hire for upper Mgt. postions outside the company therefore you'll get your chance as long as your not a dumbask me later and I'll fill in the blank

2 yrs of Paramedic school and another 1 year interning in the street and hospital EDs and you, too can stick people w/ IVs, insert breathing tubes, defibrillate w/ hundreds of Joules of electricity. If you're still bored theres always narcotics to be pushed.

of course there's a lot of death and destruction- but we do eat well- and usually time to play on the internet (as if you couldn't tell)

I worked at Nationwide for 5 years, but I just recently moved to Halifax to be a pastor.

If you're interested in Nationwide, if you aren't interal, they hire people through a temp. agency at Nationwide, they keep you as a temp for about 3 months, and if you do good they hire you.

I worked as a temp for 3 months and then they hired me full time.

You have to stay in your position for a year before you can post for other positions...I can't remember which temp agency it was...you might have to ask around. It was interim when I was there...but it has since changed names.

If you're interested in the ministry and you have a degree from LU...you can probably go to the church placement office and see if they'll add your name to a list of candidates.

Hope this helps!

Why don't students get a discount? Alum are the ones with real jobs. We're the ones with no money.

Yes Medic, as long as you keep coming back, I will continue to give you the 15% alumni discount...SJ, what'll make you really sick is that W&M Bookstore (Also owned by B&N-but their bookstore is FAR nicer than ours) gives W&M students a 10% discount on W&M items...but I guess thats b/c W&M merchandise isn't even a quarter of their store whereas 99.9% of our sutff is LU imprinted.
