maybe an AFA (automated fire alarm)?

though normally on-site PD or fire brigades investigate those prior to notifying outside agencies- not sure what LUPD protocol is on that one.

another big one is electrical/wires inside- esp high density housing and at educational institutions/places of mass gatherings.

you kinda pull the trigger quickly on those and send everyone back if not needed- rather than be too slow to react and let something small get out of control.

Are all campus dorms sprinklered now? noticed DeMoss is, and standpipe connections at Vines- didn't know about Res Halls though.

they certainly SHOULD be, but...

I was living in 5-1 sophomore year and I guess the heater up in 5-2 caught on fire...we were outside for like 2 hours or something...I remember joking around that if the place burns down maybe we will all get free tuition or something....I didn't have anything in my room too priceless...especially if I was getting free tuition out of it....anyways, they put it out with the Fire extinguisher but 2 firs trucks still came, they seem mad when they left 5 minutes later, but there was still a good hour until LUPD let us back in

There was a donut spill at the new on-campus Krispy Kreme. (rim shot)

They're taking the victims to Light Medical...wherever that is. (rim shot)

I'm here all night, folks. Try the veal!

I remember my sophomore year, I was living on 5-1 on 9/11/01. About 6:45AM our fire alarm went off and it was a false alarm. LUPD had to call in the LFD. We were outside for about an hour and 45 minutes. Ended up being a malfunction on the system, but when we got back in about 830.

another former 5-1'er....that dorm and fire alarms, i could gone on for days talking about the many times the fire alarm went off and it was a false alarm....it was at like 7 or 8 times the 2 years I was on the hall...each time it took 30 minutes for LUPD to figure things out...once i was in the shower so i went out in just a towel, my RA was mad at me and got special permission from the LUPD officer to let me in and get some clothes on

My fire alarm story is from my freshman year. I was living in 31-3 and one night some guy decided it would be a novel idea to set off some firecrackers in the common area. Well the fire alarms went off...at 3 in the morning! Now youve got 100 or so guys are standing outside and needless to say somebody was cruisin for a bruisin, and the RAs were ready to sign off on it if we ever found out who was responsible. We never did.

Yeah, it may have been a false alarm, but there were at least three fire trucks responding. I was running errands (Staples and Dollar Tree) and it was all sirens and lights as I did my shopping. It was enough to make me do a lap around campus to see what the hubbub was about, and the trail ended at Dorm 33, where there were fire trucks and LUPD cars parked. No smoke though, although maybe they'd put out whatever it was by then.

Some of us old hags remember when there really was a fire on the mountain ... hence the bald spot.

Yeh I was on 5-2 during the 9/11/01 morning. We were out there for awhile waiting for LUPD and it was kinda of chilly. I think the fiar alarm went off alot in that dorm because one of the kooks in 5-2 would cook something.

Another fire on the mountain...this time a small brush fire behind Wingate that attracted the attention of the LFD

The fire was from an RD apartment -- an exhaust fan caught on fire. Nobody was hurt, thankfully.

You're going to blame Randy Dunton for that, too?
