A Bedford County man faces a first-degree murder charge in the Dec. 26 death of his infant son.

The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that Justin Christopher Strode, 24, called emergency crews to his Big Island home along Lee-Jackson Highway late Dec. 24 because Jaccob Strode had stopped breathing.

The 11-week-old boy was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, where doctors contacted social services and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office after they examined him.

On Christmas Day Jaccob Strode was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where investigators were told his injuries included blunt-force trauma to the head, authorities said.

On Dec. 26, Jaccob Strode was taken off life support and died, authorities said.

On Monday, Justin Strode was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse. He is being held at the Bedford Adult Detention Center without bond.

Strode was enrolled as a part-time student at Liberty University through last semester and worked in the admissions office, a university official said.

He was married in 2005. His wife’s name is Angela.

I don't know this guy and I don't have any information on the case really other than I've heard that something like this seems completely out of character for him to do. However, as a resident of Bedford County, I take every arrest they make with a rather large grain of salt. I'd say more but I don't want Roscoe P. Coltrane and his crack computer unit banging down my door at midnight.

child pornogrpahy is just as sick to me....it ruins the kids forever, and more times then not the children involved in the pornography were sexually abused as well...that is a terrible thing and anybody that has anything to do with it should be locked up for life....it is unforgivable to ruin a child's life....

I guess we all just have to sit and wait for the whole thing to play out- its completely normal to have these strong reactions to situations involving innocent children.

Pray for all involved- unfortunately this tragedy will rip apart many many lives.

postman..do you even know why i brought up the child porn?? it was in reference to libertine talking about bedford co.'s finest busting in people's homes on child porn busts through operation blue ridge thunder. this thread is about a child that did not get to experience life. im with the medic in praying for all involved. i do agree with your assessment though on child porn.

Jeez. Y'all know me better than that, Smoothie. I was absolutely not drawing a connection between murder and child porn.
I was making a crack about the Bedford County computer crimes unit -- which is more than just Operation Blue Ridge Thunder, but that's all anyone ever hears about -- tracking my posts on a message board (not true, I hope) coupled with the rather Draconian/Dukes of Hazzard-ian way that the BC Sheriff's department and the local Commonwealth's Attorney tend go after suspects (somewhat subjective but certainly true in my opinion).

Let's just say that in Bedford, Bubba carries a gun and a badge and the jury is always out. Even when it's in.

by the way, there is a lot more to this story than what's in that article. They reported 1 injury, of many, that was given to them. It just so happens that that particular injury makes him look like a murderer. I'm sure that was purely coincidental.
