Lynchburg has a lot more raw potential to work with; it makes sense a developer would prefer it.

who would not like lynchburg as a developer?? charlottesville has been developed, and the growth is in the residential market to the north and west of charlottesville. developers are seeing the growth of liberty and are wanting to capitalize on it. plus the cost of living is way cheaper in the burg as well.

now if only you people would get an interstate built down there.

The cost per square foot in Lynhcburg is comparison to Charlottesville is substantial. You really pay a premium for having the Jeffersonian history all around you. Frankly I prefer the bargain with similar aesthetic beauty. But then again, I live in Houston.

Are you anywhere near Sugarland?

No, but I work about 15 minutes from there. I live on the NW side of Houston. Its about an hour commute across town for me.

How do you like it down in Houston, Sly? I'd considered leaving the 'burg for Texas at one point. I know the cost of living is comparable. I'm almost done with my degree in Business Marketing and my wife is a 3rd year Special Ed high school teacher.

The cost of living in Houston is less than Lynchburg generally speaking. I moved to Texas in 1990 for a job and haven't left since. Houston is not my favorite city in Texas, but it definitely has its perks. Austin gets my full recommendations although its more in line with Virginia cost of living.

OK, I'll stop before I get the inevitable cracks from the frostbitten Pennsylvanians on here who can't handle being reminded they living on the frozen tundra.

Austin has high apartment costs

Ita ll depends on your location. The closer you are to UT the higher it gets. But there is plenty of affordable apartments on the northside in low crime areas.

yeah I know, I am looking at their law school.....I did some work in one of the buildings there. I also liked the building in the shape of an Owl because the architect was a Rice graduate.

The Drip is ridiculously high and there aren't many apts out there. Look north to Metric Blvd/Wells Branch or to the new apartments being built on 290 East. I couldn't get over all of the new apts when I was there before Christmas.

Is it a lot more expensive to be near the beach like it is pretty much everywhere else? I'd be interested in moving if the beach isn't too far away from me. Of course, I'm in Lynchburg now because Fort Myers, FL was too expensive for me.

What part of 290 do you live on? closer to prarie view or the airport? I have a old roomate (he's an ag, by the way) that may live really close to you.

But I was referring to 290 East of I-35 to jmdickens. I have to admit being young and living in Austin was awesome. But alas I am now a happily married man with a house full of kids in exurbia.
