I worked at the Boonsboro Starbucks part-time while I checked out Lynchburg for our future retirement location and took a year off from real work. I actually work for a large commercial real estate consulting and brokerage firm. Our firm is consulting on several large projects in Lynchburg out of an east coast office.
Interesting about Starbucks buying the BBuster loactions--and smart as they look for similar demographics.

OK. First, a quick Google or even a glance at a phonebook would tell you that there are 3 Blockbusters in the area. Second, how hard is it to be a member at both Blockbuster and Hollywood Video?

if they had phonebooks in the dorms, then it probably would be alot easier, and why would i have a membership to hollywood video when there are no hollywood videos where i live in chicago and im not going to get a membership somewhere where i will use it for 2 and a half more years

Just for clarification, Starbucks did not buy the Blockbuster. The Blockbuster will still be there, but it has enherited a new parasite that will feed off of unsuspecting movie renters.

On a side note, I've heard that McDonald's is changing it's interiors into more of a coffee-shop type setting with couches and big screens and lounge areas. They want to change their ambiance to more of a hangout place and a cleaner, more cozy setting.

You're not joining a cult. It's just a video store. Get the membership and close it out in 3 years or just chuck the card and never go back. It's not a life choice.

Are you kidding me? You live in Lynchburg 10 months out of the year. I think it'd be more important to get a membership to Hollywood Video than Blockbuster since you spend more time here.

Why? Joining doesn't cost you anything and their business practices aren't a complete scam designed solely to rip off their customers? <cough>--Blockbuster!!--<cough>

Then why does Hollywood charge more for non-new releases than for new ones? At Blockbuster it's only $1.99, and you can keep them a whole week.

To me, Hollywood is like those phone companies for delinquent customers. They charge you more, but at least you can avoid paying late fees at Blockbuster.

If you don't mind buying the movie. Read the fine print. Blockbuster also has the nasty habit of attaching itself to your credit report.

Just moved to Netflix myself for the same reason. They've also got a lot of movies that you can't rent around here. The original 'Manchurian Candidate' anyone?

If I watched enough movies to justify it, I'd go with Netflix.

I've gone through 10 movies in the last 3 weeks. Netflix price: $22.98 for the month. Local rental price: $25-40.

And, yes, they've got Spongebob out the ying-yang.
