Since his return, Prevo has sparked considerable controversy due to his remarks made about the trip. The minister told reporters that South Africa’s white President Pieter Botha was a committed reformer, that blacks did not want a “one-man one-vote” democracy and that South African blacks did not want Americans to pull their investments from the country as a protest against apartheid.
So, I have read this entire thread with heightened interest because, well, reasons I can't get into here.

Anyways, Whatisthetruth, I am not surprised about Prevo saying that. In the mid 80's Jerry Sr went to South Africa. On his return he claimed he didn't encounter any black South Africans who wanted to get rid of apartheid and then he claimed Desmond Tutu was a phony. Those statements were made at a party celebrating the pardon and early release of an actual cult leader from prison (had been convicted of tax fraud). Falwell then went on to beg his followers to buy Krugerrands to help prop up the apartheid government. https://www.nytimes.com/1985/08/21/worl ... phony.html
More on the story. https://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/19 ... south.html
He begged Reagan not to take action against the South African government, but Reagan ignored him. This was one of the few times Reagan ignored him, another time was when Falwell begged Reagan to start a war over Russia daring to shoot down a non-communicative aircraft that had flown over Russian airspace twice. (The plane happened to have a US senator on it.)

Btw, don't know if yal know this. Falwell Sr preached pro-segregation sermons and refused to allow African Americans to join his church for a long time (he admitted this in his autobiography from the late 80s).

Let the record show that nothing you shared is breaking news for anyone on this board. Doc publicly repented of his racist positions and went out of his way in his final decades to show with his deeds that he truly had changed.

I was on campus in the '80s when all of the Apartheid discussion was occurring. The fear at the time was that the Pro-West ties of Botha were all that was standing in the way of Russia seizing strategic control of the southern tip of the continent. Mandela was supposedly a committed Communist who would turn the nation against "democracy" if he were released from prison. History showed little of any of that hypothesis proved to be true. Doc was wrong on a number of fronts poltically in the Late '80s in his stancee to battle communism. But hindsight is 20/20 and I doubt he would be proud of those positions if he were alive today.

Am I reading this right. The incident occured July 1 2019. But he hasn’t been a teacher there in several years. Why did she not look into his record at LCS as wee? I’m no Hines fan but he does kinda have a point.

Reading the entire article, yes, it occurred July 2019, shortly before he resigned. They did reach out to the public schools, but no comment. Hines didn't comment in the article, but there is a discrepancy between his email - which was sent out after being contacted by TRR - and what Principal Capps told the Gosnells in May.

I was not surprised about a discrepancy between Capps and Hines. You can read into that what you will. :D

It is insane to me that it took a journalist poking around for the school to notify parents. And then on top of that they didn't mention his name! The email to the parents was posted in a wset article and it has some demonstrable false statements. Why is it so hard to just respond in a normal way?
