Notre Dame's Fellows (what is essentially our Executive Committee) is made up of six priests and six lay people. Amongst the lay people are a former Secretary of Education (woman), high profile businessman, managing partner level lawyer (alumnus), managing partner of an investment firm (alumnus), lawyer (woman, alumnus), and CEO investment firm.

If you look at that model, it's a mix of spiritual leadership, business leadership, and education leadership.

If we want to be the Notre Dame for evangelicals, this make up is what we need to get to instead of what we currently have.

At some point you're going to need to mature a little bit and get over this hang-up.

I'm not sure what criteria you guys think makes for a good board member. LU has long had a problem with celebrity worship & cronyism, and some of these suggestions just perpetuate that. Students, parents, locals, the media, society...nobody cares who is on a school's board of trustees, so let's stop trying to impress everyone with BIG names. Go look at the boards of other institutions that we should emulate, see what type of board make-up helps them to be successful.
Good luck with that. Today, diversity is more important than ability. Hopefully, we will get past that some day, but don't see it happening. These young heads full of mush, are being taught this :BS in skool, more than reading, writing and math. Is it any wonder that our edukational outcomes, are being passed by other countries?
As far as the Bored make up goes, nothing we say or do here, is ultimately going to matter. As someone else said, it is the structure/process that really matters.
I do believe that age is the biggest problem. Anyone over 70 should be forced to retire. I would prefer the median age be in the 50"s. That way, you get people who are experienced, but still have a link with the current culture and can relate, in some fashion, to the student body.
