A Fulbright is a huge deal in academia and generally positions that person for top tier access in the business world. It is a VERY competitive process where she probably had to stand out above the others because of the politics involved in the process.

Acceptance percentages vary by country, and last year for Spain, the acceptance rate was only 16%. I'm sure it helped that she was a TESL major (Teaching English as a Second Language), a Honors Program graduate who wrote a senior Honors thesis, and a National Merit Commended student on a full-tuition scholarship.
