this is a controversial subject since everybody always says there isn't anything. None of this natural bridge junk either. Rules are it has to be in Lynchburg or a county that touches Lynchburg (Bedford, Appomattox, Amherst, etc.) Ready.... go

Does the Peaks of Otter count under your guidelines? If so, that was a regular activity for me back when I was in school. I loved that place. In fact, I'm going ot try and squeeze a jaunt up there in my visit next month.

Other than the new rink, I'm open to suggestions as well. Poplar Forest wasn't anything to get excited about for me when I went years ago. I doubt much has changed.

Of course you have bowling (which is expensive as crap) and the movies. Other than that I'm not sure.

yeah, I think Peaks of Otter is in Bedford. Amherst has Poplar Grove golf course. Sam Snead's last course design. It's the nicest course I've even been on, and although I'm not a good golfer (I'm actually horrible with a bright spot every 5 holes or so), I've actually played on many courses that are considered to be VERY nice. My inlaws are golf nuts and take me everywhere golfing. They agreed that this one is the best they've seen so far, short of the courses they've played in Hawaii. If you're gonna play it though, you better have a check book ready because it is expensive.

I'm a big kid so I'm pretty sure when it gets warmer I'll be there.

75 cent movie night is Tuesday
Monday its 50 cents a ticket with a group of 3 or more
Hmm...nothing else really comes to mind other than putt-putt and bowling...but Williamsburg (read: Busch Gardens) is only 3-4 hours away

I have and still enjoy on a nice weekend morning, going up to the Peaks of Otter lodge and having breakfast there and walking around their lake and up around the peaks. It is a great and very relaxing time.

I've been here for going on 9 years now, and I'm still not sure what there is to do. If there was ever a reason for me to leave, the lack of diversions is definitely the big one.

my wife and I would go to the lynchburg fine arts theatre productions, they were pretty good. The Hillcats games were fairly exciting if you liked watching baseball like I did. Lynchburg did have some nice golf courses like Ivy Hill, Poplar Forest, among others. They were the first courses that I played that actually had terrain. The history that Lynchburg has is fairly nice as well. We toured the Civil War hospital and Armory that was there as well. I also went wade fishing in the James River while I was there.

ok- I'm sold. How much are green fees, and cart fees? (I like to walk when alone, but in a foursome it ain't happening. We'd be there all day.)

I'm game for a round when I get back down there- LUconn and I will take on any other 2 of you.

Unlimited mulligans, foot wedges are fine, and a buck a hole is as much as I'm willing to spend.

we'll have to meet in MontCo somewhere- that oughta be about halfway!

(I actually play a few courses in the northern part of Montgomery County somewhat frequently)

A bigger question could be, "What is there FUN to do in Lynchburg that is NOT a violation of "The Liberty Way?"

give it a couple years and you won't be losing any sleep over that. In the meantime, you should still be able to entertain yourselves, I'd think. We always did, anyway.

You could always sit around and watch SJ lose his mind- he doesn't appear to have much left to begin w/

My mind's all there, I'm just amused easily. One thing I can't stand to do is sit around and watch my friends play Halo. We've had some serious battles in Tiger Woods and FIFA Soccer though, and a 6OT game on NCAA Football 06. Yes, I'm a sports video game junkie. I just had a friend buy Tiger Woods 06 and we've been working all week in creating guys that look like us and so far three of my friends have gotten their character to look exactly like them. Of course, they live on campus so they work on their's more than me. Speaking of that, I have 30 minutes til class, I think I'll work on mine.

The Hillcats had some legit pros over the last few years. Many of them will be on the opening day roster for the Pirates this year. BTW - I am going to Pirates spring training this year in Bradenton so I will scope the Hillcats roster for this year - cant wait! Pitchers and catchers report in a few weeks!

I love minor league baseball. There's nothing better than a minor league game when it's warm outside. To me, it's one of the best places to take a date if the weather is nice.

The best thing in Lynchburg that hasn't been mentioned: Disc Golf (you Seinfeld fans might know it as "frolf")

18 holes at peaksview park and it's free. It takes about an hour as long as there aren't groups in front of you that slow you down. The only thing you have to worry about is hitting people or cars with your discs because people who don't play are completely oblivious to the course. There are certain places not to park, and it's probably those same people who are having a picnic right on the fairway who can't figure out why frisbees keep hitting them.
