So I assume this is their new PR person? Seems long overdue considering all the previous missteps, and someone who at least has a good working knowledge of how to properly work with the press.

Saw the news release as well. The position strangely reports up to Marketing. But he's a local TV guy so they probably are just looking for someone to work the local market.

Communications reporting to marketing? Makes it sound like they hired a director of propaganda instead.

Len is a very popular guy in the Lynchburg market. Liberty already has made some good efforts at building relationships with municipal leaders and this will go far with folks in the community.

Depends on where they work.

Generally if an organization has it's own in-house communications and marketing offices, they fall under the same organizational tree that reports to the organization's director of communications and marketing. They work together, not one working for the other.

Frankly, I don't even really get the point in having a communications department if it's just going to directly report to marketing. That is unless Len Stevens is able to convince the school to stop looking and acting like complete morons sometimes when it comes to external communications. However, I doubt that's going to happen given Falwell, Jr. is the president. Seems like a community outreach person would have been more beneficial than hiring someone to sweet talk the media and be a social media shill.

I understand Len is very liberal and was always very critical of Liberty. But good for him his former boss and WSET GM, Randy Smith was able to land him a job.
