Lynchburg City Council will consider a request by Liberty University and Thomas Road Baptist Church to gain a zoning designation that would provide the entities greater flexibility in their future development.
The petition coming before council during a public hearing Tuesday seeks the rezoning of multiple parcels comprised of 752 acres from their current zoning classifications to the IN-2 institutional zoning district.

I not know much about zoning, but on the surface it seems to me that LU and TRBC should not be under any zoning regulations. They own the property. They should be able to plan, develop and build as they desire.
There is too much red tape and government interference in developing and building in all sectors.
I know a guy who built a small house on his land behind his home. He had to make 45 trips to the county building/zoning office.
