Economists and academics presented a picture of the Lynchburg area to regional business leaders and economic officials Wednesday morning that indicated the area lags in several metrics but excels in others.

Central Virginia reported a slackened pace in gross domestic product, employment and wage growth but stood out in tourism and housing when contrasted with the rest of the state’s metropolitan areas. Much of that data is reported in the context of the Great Recession, comparing current numbers to before the economy tanked in 2007.

I think they missed the impact of out of area retirees coming to town. No job but good spendable cash.
