I think the speech was good and that both, Liberty and Sanders were big winners here.

I also think this is going to open a lot of doors up for Liberty like future convo speakers, academics, etc that they would normally wouldn't see. Like shattered the typical stereotype.

lastly, you know its a cold day in hell when the opposite end of the spectrum in politics are praising LU.

If it makes you feel any better I have been disgusted by the spin put on this from a lot of sources both conservative and liberal. I am just a bit more critical of Christians because we should be better. Crazy, huh.

I personally don't disagree with having speakers from differing points of view. I haven't followed Sanders but just wasn't impressed with the arguments he was trying to make. I had heard he was trying to be different than the typical pol, left or right. I didn't see anything new.

I think it's good for the school to have folks in his position speak though and it should continue to happen.

I agree with most of his points, but I think the methodology for the solutions he's promoting from his platform is flawed. We also need to take into account the cost of doing business due to burdensome government regulations, which he did not address. We could have more businesses and more competition if it was easier for lower and middle income families to start businesses. At the same time, I think there is a problem with greed on Wall St. and the love of money in this country in general. I don't think a "redistribution of wealth," through the tax code and welfare system is the only solution.

I am reconsidering my admiration for Liberty as a Christian institution.

What kind of intolerant, heartless people would force someone to listen to songs about God's love, forgiveness, the Resurrection, etc.

I mean, this poor girl has been traumatized. Probably scarred for life. She's so brave. How did she survive the obvious indoctrination and mind control attempts she "was subjected to" at Convo during her student days? She's a survivor. Thank ____________ (fill in the blank) that she found Bernie!

But even now, anywhere she goes in Lynchburg, she knows that they'll be watching her.... from the Freedom Tower. It's just unbelievable! LU could teach the Church of Scientology a thing or two.
....................................................................................................................

Liberty graduate Bethany Walker, who lives in Lynchburg, Va., and was sporting a pro-Sanders shirt says,

I was subjected to convocation for several years before I moved off campus, and then I did not ever come again. I know that they invite people … so as to appear neutral even though they clearly are not, but I think because they are a religious institution and they’re tax-exempt, they’re kind of compelled by their attorneys to make it even opportunity.”

Exactly. LU got what they wanted out of Bernie's appearance as well.

He points to the same problems Trump does. Rigged system with Washington and media being owned by a few wealthy multinationals. Socialism is not the answer. I prefer Trump's solutions.

When a Liberal speaks at LU, I wish the News & Advance would stop seeking out supporters of the Liberal and putting their photo in the paper and interviewing them. Just focus on the Speaker and ignore his/her supporters.

The job of the press isn't to take sides. By definition, they can't be "aiding the enemy."

You clearly have not watched any major network news broadcasts in the last decade.

I wasn't grading their performance, I was stating their job.

Props to Liberty for having uncle Bernie speak. I'm not sure Donald Trump would be welcomed at UNC Asheville. I'm not sure Donald Trump is a serious candidate though. But would Jeb! be better received in Asheville? I'm not sure.

We have respected conservative groups on campus, so I'd hope it would go well, but with a big name I think the crazies might show up en masse. I'd like to know.

I think in Sander's mind he puts out old testament solutions. Doesn't seem that surprising considering his age, religion, so on and so forth. Kibbutzism, while still a thing, has certainly lost favor since the 60s and 70s.

As someone who lives in DC, Bernie is one of the only senators I see in the grocery store. Very passionate, serious guy. His disheveled look and perceived gruffness masks his intensity, I think.

As a liberal, it is probably too bad Bernie is choice number two. It's nice that he is going nationwide and in tough spots (Liberty and the deep south come to mind). I don' t think Biden wouldn't change the dynamic very much. I still want to draft Jon Huntsman. I'd vote for him regardless of party.

Clinton is a mess and a terrible campaigner and if you guys nominate anyone other than Kasich or Bush you will probably lose handily against whomever based only on numbers. Possible exception being Rubio, but he doesn't seem to have the chops and the young contingent he wants to bring doesn't reflect the todays convservative electorate.

Just listened/watched to most of Sanders' speech. As with most Democrats, I agree with a large portion of what he's wanting to do. I just disagree with his means to go about doing it. Bernie, like Biden, is a dude I'd love to sit down and have a burger with knowing that at the end of the day, we'd respect each other but respectfully disagree as we left.

McClellan was pretty bad
Didn't David Duke try to run once?

Love this quote:

¨We’d like to think the repressive dogmatists who dominate so many other campuses today are taking note. Experience, alas, suggests even that is expecting too much in the hermetically sealed echo chambers of elite academia¨.

There are a few SBC presidents who probably fit that articulate description, even though the schools they head up are far from academically elite.

Sad, but often true. Conservatives seem to have forgotten some of the Bible because we are too busy judging the poor as simply folks who don't want to work or who want to rely on someone else for their needs. We have done the same with environmental causes, putting our income ahead of valuing God's creation. Now, can government change that? Nasser called out the problem; It is a heart/sin issue all the way around. Bernie wants to legislate that, but I'd guess he'd be one of the first to say that you can't legislate morality? Our system is what it is and that 1% will still be around 50 years from now- maybe only .5% by then!
