A retired supervisor of Lynchburg’s Department of Emergency Services and an employee of Thomas Road Baptist Church were the two people found dead in their Forest home this week, officials confirmed Friday.
A Bedford County Sheriff’s Office news release Friday afternoon identified the people as Curtis L. Brumfield, 58, and Susan C. Brumfield, 56. Bedford Sheriff’s Major Ricky Gardner confirmed in an email Friday the two were married.
The couple was found dead shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday in a house at 115 Jane Randolph St., which online county property records say Curtis Brumfield has owned since 1998.
Investigators don’t believe a third party was involved in the couple’s deaths, however, the release notes the investigation is ongoing and could take several weeks or more before any investigative conclusions can be made.
Susan Brumfield worked at a string of churches over the years, most recently Thomas Road Baptist Church, DeBlock said, adding she was unsure if that’s where Susan Brumfield was working at the time of her death. A church spokesman couldn’t be reached for comment Friday.
“She normally worked like in a church setting,” DeBlock said.
“Of anybody, they were truly Jesus-loving, pure Christian people. They cared about everybody’s salvation. That was their passion,” she said.
