Smartphone apps/LU students

I was just told about two apps that are getting really popular with the college kids these days, Unseen and Yik Yak. LU students are pretty active on both and I must say I'm pretty surprised by some of the behavior on there, disappointed really. Any of you guys heard/looked at these apps?

Yik yak is pretty common on college campuses.

I'm officially old. I have no idea what these aps are AND I fell asleep in the 4th quarter of the LU football game on my couch.

Just scrolled through the weekend on Unseen. Nothing horrible. Of course college kids at a Christian school are going to post some pictures of alcohol and other things like that. That's pretty typical. What I saw was actually tamer than I expected.

I just read several articles about these aps. They seem boring to me.
Wait. Liberty kids drink!!?? Shocking!!

Liberty got unseen on Thursday. There's so alcohol and pot on there but no naked girls or anything like that. It's pretty tame comparatively speaking.

As Potentate of the Dark Side, I charge you with the responsibility of continuously checking the sight, 'just to make sure'

Nah. I'm good. Looked at enough of that when I was in school. Don't need to go back there.

Yik Yak is disturbing sometimes when I go on there. But LU's page is very tame in comparison to other schools

So what are we supposed to be comparing our student behavior to, other schools? Is that how that works?

I guess???? Just to kind of re-inforce our "Holier-than-thou," stance and all...
And the fact that LU kids STILL put up pics of themselves with alcohol is just plain stupid...they deserve whatever reps they get from that. Not because of the alcohol or pot or whatever, but for being stupid.

What? Is there some other, higher standard they should be living to?

SHOULD yes...but its one thing to live up to it, its another to hold yourself in higher regard because you don't do something that is questionable (specifically being over 21 and consuming a fermented beverage)

So they don't deserve reps for "the alcohol or pot or whatever"? I'm confused.

they deserve reps without a doubt but what I don't understand is why people are shocked by this stuff. It was happening while I was in school. I mean there was even someone who got arrested for child porn. There are people doing dumb things at Liberty. I am sure it has always been that way. The difference now there is social media everywhere where more people can see it.
Regular human college students go to Liberty from all walks of life.

Who is shocked? I don't see anyone on here using that word other than you. They were doing that stuff in 1982 when I was a Freshman. And it hasn't stopped since then.

Yik Yak was pretty popular last fall, you'd find classier language on a cheap phonesex hotline.

That was the original post. My intent was saying I'm not surprised at all because people who are going to rebel are going to do it and that's part of our culture. It happens. They deserve reps if they are caught but most people aren't dumb enough to include a picture of their face in what they're posting. By no means was I saying we should accept what is being posted.

Where I went to military school you got written up for "the alcohol or pot or whatever" but there also was something called "gross poor judgement" it was largely reserved for those cases where cadets did just plain stupid crap. As Christians we should hold ourselves to a higher standard, but as young people (for the most part), you're going to see people, especially in this social media age, put up some stuff that can only make you shake your head because the old hags (I think I'm in that category even though I graduated at 27) would expect them to know better

yes that is the post I am referencing to. Nobody should be surprised. Upset? Maybe, but surprised? Hardly.

What I meant by that was that I was surprised at how open and careless the students were acting on there, not that it was happening, my fault for not clarifying.
