La Carreta has continued to roll along as El Mejor en Virginia Centra. But some new players are hoping to cart off the title in 2014.

The new La Carreta store on Timberlake is a huge step up from their old building. And the food, service, and value are unchanged and tops in my book.

My wife was never a real big fan of La Carreta. She had the queso but really not much else appealed to her pallet...of course she also lives about a day's drive from the Mexican border so she has had plenty of exposure to truly authentic Mexican food so not much really impresses her.

La Carreta is some of the worst Mexican food I've had. :-/ Not sure what what the craze is about. Guess I'm just used to Mexican food in California which is very very different.

It's about the consistency, service and value as much as the food. I'll admit I probably don't know what "authentic" Mexican food is, but theirs tastes good to me every time.

To my knowledge, there is no authentic Mexican food in Lynchburg. It is all 2nd- or 3rd-rate TexMex. But even that is better than a lot fo other options in the 'Burg.

Ever eaten at El Taco (not Del Taco) around LA?

Tough to compare Mexican fast food with a true taqueria experience much less an upscale Mexican option. La Carreta presents itself as one of the latter.

La Carreta rolls on to another easy victory in this category.
