I do find it kinda funny that they banged him for taking a check for $1424 and one for $2380 (if i'm reading that right)

anybody think Tip O'Neil never did that times, say- a million?

not that it justifies it, but c'mon man

(BTW anybody know who Tip O'Neil is?)

If the federal government prosecuted every politician guilty of what Bob did to the extent they went after him, they would spend the rest of our lives and our money just hitting the Tip of the iceberg. I in no way excuse McDonnell for anything. It just shows the political nature of the entire case.

I think he will. I'm still not down on this hire. I have a sneaking suspicion he will be fairly successful in his appeal

this story on the planned appeal does NOT make the family sound good. at all

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/jury ... l-25244621
The McDonnells' defense strategy depended in large part on convincing jurors that their marriage itself was a fraud and they were unable to speak to each other, let alone conspire to accept bribes. They left the courtroom separately — first Bob and then Maureen, who hugged one of her daughters and wept loudly on the way out.

The McDonnells were convicted on nearly all the counts involving doing favors for wealthy vitamin executive Jonnie Williams in exchange for more than $165,000 in gifts and loans they admitted taking.

Maureen McDonnell also was convicted of obstructing justice after the scandal broke, by returning designer clothes Williams had bought for her during a New York shopping trip, along with a handwritten note suggesting they had agreed Williams could give the dress to his daughters or to charity.

For now at least, he's done with his LU ties.

Lynchburg, VA – Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Junior says former Governor Bob McDonnell had not been scheduled to return to campus as a distinguished visiting professor for the Fall semester.

Falwell tells ABC 13 that McDonnell was only scheduled during the Spring. He says that decision was made in the summer and McDonnell is not scheduled to come back at this time moving forward.

McDonnell had been invited to join the teaching staff at Liberty as a distinguished visiting professor in government. At the time, McDonnell said he was delighted to contribute to Liberty's world class academic programs and train students to make a significant positive impact at every level of government.

On Thursday, the former governor and his wife Maureen were both convicted of corruption after a three week trial. A jury found Bob McDonnell guilty on 11 of 13 counts. Maureen was found guilty on 9 of 13.

The couple was charged with accepting gifts and loans from former Star Scientific CEO Jonnie Williams in exchange for promoting his company's products.

The McDonnells will be sentenced on January 10th and face a maximum of 20 years in prison.

The couple's attorney says they will appeal.

The fact that they vacated the ruling isn't what surprised me...it's the fact that it was unanimously vacated. That's a major smackdown by the high court in this case
