Liberty & Benny Hinn

It's amazing how fast this stuff moves:

Liberty University released the following statement on Thursday, April 3:

Liberty University is not partnering with Benny Hinn. Liberty transferred the operations of Liberty Home Bible Institute, a non-accredited biblical studies certificate program, to Mr. Dan Reber a number of years ago. It is our understanding that LHBI’s new operators are working with Benny Hinn but LHBI is no longer operated by Liberty University. Mr. Reber was granted certain licensing rights to use Liberty’s name because the Liberty name was deeply imbedded in LHBI course materials. He was also required to obtain permission from Liberty University for any changes in marketing of the courses and Liberty University is investigating to determine whether this new marketing approach violates the terms of its agreement with Mr. Reber.

Crazy stuff. Supposedly there's some video mentioned, but I can't seem to view it.

I guess the video shows Ron Godwin with Hinn. That would not be good.

Might be enough to find a new Provost.

I find it ironic we bring down the hammer on Lipscomb for alleged logo copyright infringement but let just about everyone else use the name 'Liberty' I.e. Liberty Home Bible Institue, Liberty Counsel...

I was about to come on here and post this. I don't understand how Liberty can even pretend they aren't endorsing in Ron Godwin is sitting right there pretty much endorsing it.

I am sure someone will try to spin this, but what a terrible mistake by our school to allow our name be associated with this man.

For the record, LHBI had been a part of Liberty since its inception from Dr. Harold Willmington. But obviously those connections are passed. It is good to see the school getting out in front of this quickly. For the record, I haven't seen the video or spoken with anyone at the school directly about this development.

Who handles PR for the school??? Sometimes I really wonder what goes on internally at LU.

The fired their entire University Relations department years ago and decided Johnny Moore was the man to do damage control. I wonder when they will finally realize he shouldn't be in that roll and they should have a real PR department.

I thought it was LHBI not Liberty University. That diploma in the video say otherwise. This school is embarrassing.

Exactly, how can the school distance themselves from this when the diploma on tv says Liberty University.

This is much larger than disagreeing with a convo decision.

I just hope it all gets cleared up soon.

He does know where all the bodies are buried.......

At least Benny Hinn isn't using an LU style logo. Cause that's be waaayyyy over the line.

Okay, I apparently missed this whole thing. Anyone want to give me a Reader's Digest of what happened?

Liberty is backtracking on their partnership with Benny Hinn. That's basically the gist of it.

Godwin and Reber went on the Benny Hinn show and promoted the LBHI. In the conversation, it was suggested that students could go from LBHI to LU to Ordination with Benny Hinn's ministry. LBHI appears to be rebranded (at least in part) as "Liberty University Institute of Biblical Studies."

Liberty released a press statement that the use of "Liberty University" was used without permission and that LU is not partnering with Benny Hinn.

I think it is to prepare us for the announcement that Benny Hinn will be our Commencement speaker!

This is really gaining legs. I have family members not connected to the school asking me what is going on.

My parents are huge Benny Hinn fans, and any other Pentacostal fan, and think its marvelous

Is Liberty so money hungry now to build, build, build, that they will partner with anyone? It is embarrassing. And we wonder why Liberty is not respected.

For Liberty to say they are not partnering with Hinn, yet Godwin is right there, is dubious at best.

As Ricky would say, they got some 'splainin' to do!

If Reber gets thrown under the bus, does Godwin too?

I heard they were going to partner with Danny Lovett to start their own online degree program.

Im not in the best of moods after getting some difficult news last night but I did get to read some of the links posted and I do wonder what is with the hatred some of you show for Dr Godwin. The man has made his share of mistakes (as we all have) but some of you sound like its at an unhealthy level.

This stuff becomes inevitable when you rely on some BIG donors (some of whom are on the board) who themselves are into questionable ventures. They get to make some of the calls.

Again, in my mind, all these things are a result of the obvious lack of real, strong spiritual leadership at the top. When Doc died, no one came in to fill that void.

BJ, with all due respect to your current emotional state, but seriously?? Godwin?? Please don't get me started on that man.
