So LU is now offering undergrad and graduate certificate programs.

Not much fanfare with the announcement, I only saw it because of a tweet. I was looking at them, and it had me wondering....are these even worth anything, professionally? I mean, it doesn't look like you actually get any type of real certification. Someone help me out here, are these academically and professionally legit, or is this just a sneaky money-grab?

I don't want to be skeptical, but I just haven't seen this before.

They are legit, but certainly also another way to get students & tuition $$$. It's something a lot of online universities offer. Most often, companies will pay for their employees to get them because their quicker and more specified. For example, instead of going through all the effort and time to get a Master's in Education, one could instead seek a Certificate in Autism Education. Less time, less cost and more specific for a graduate level certificate.

They range from 9-18 credit hours.

Certificates work out well if you don't want to go through the work of a masters program to advance your career, and these certainly look legit. I completed a grad certificate program at Duke a few years back and it's done nothing but help my career so far, I'd recommend it to anyone interested.
