Arrosto...spelling might be wrong is opening next weekend at the strip mall where Chipotle is on Wards Rd. It is owned by Stephan Perry who owns Shoemakers, Waterstone, Jefferson Street Brewery as well as some stake in the Craddock-Terry Hotel. I have an invite to the pre-opening and if i can swing by i will post a review.

Since Arrosto is Italian for roast I think we can venture some guesses.

Does this have anything to do with the discussion in the Dickeys thread?

No, it was from the Wards Rd Bridge thread, where it was last said to be a pizza place.

Of course. They will have cheese and pepperoni. But if you want you can make yours as regular as you want - you can choose to build your own.

Seriously? Knock-off NY-style is supposed to be "real" pizza? It must be nice living in your little world safe from reality swirling outside.

For the record, the pics of fusion-style pies from this new place look solid. But I am wondering how the over-priced but solid Mellow Mushroom hasn't come into the Lynchburg market by now. Aren't they already in places like Charlottesville & Richmond?

I'm also wondering the same thing about Mellow Mushroom down here. There are two in the Tampa area, but none further south on the west coast. Downtown Fort Myers would be a good location as would several places in the Estero/Naples area. Sure, the pizza is overpriced, but it's good. And I'm a big fan of their craft beer selection.

MM might have been an option for the Dickey's spot (course they are reopening). Wards Road is getting pretty saturated as far as the area within a the immediate radius of LU so anymore restaurants will have to either extend down toward the airport and the SoA or go in an existing piece of real estate

That's what I call 'runner up pizza ". Everyone knows Chicago style pizza is the TRUE pizza!

I rarely agree wholeheartedly with Haize but in this case I second his notion without reservation.

Which Chicago style? I've heard both deep-dish and thin crust claimed to be "Chicago style".

That's a different style of pizza - I prefer mine being made by people that clean their hands and don't sweat all over my food. Some are very good, don't get me wrong - this is just a different type of item that those.

Admit it. It feels good to agree with me. You could say I'm your 'guilty pleasure'. Nice to have you on the correct side of the issue.

True Chicago pizza is not thin crust.

The original Chicago-style still popular in some parts of Chicago is crispy thin crust including the always strong Aurelios and Traverso's. But it is the deep dish that has become synonymous with Chicago-style. Everyone has their own favorites but you can never go wrong with Lou Malnatis, Giordanos (which now has Central Florida locations), Ginos East and an endless number of neighborhood pizza joints. And while the original Pizzeria Uno is given credit for creating the deep dish phenomenon, it is probably the last place I'd go today in Chicago for a strong pie. I've also mentioned on here before that I had double-decker pizza in the Northern suburbs a few yars back that was one of the best pies of my life. But I can't remember the name of it for the life of me.

For the record, my kids are huge fans of the Mellow Mushroom. But it is as much for the awesome pretzels and ambience as it is for their pies.

In all my trips to Lynchburg I have yet to try Waterstone.
