Liberty Student's Year of Living "Gay"

Timothy Kurek’s motivation to spend a year pretending to be gay can be boiled down to a simple conviction: it takes drastic change to alter deeply held religious beliefs.
The experiment began after a lesbian friend opened up to Kurek about being excommunicated by her family. All Kurek, an avowed evangelical Christian, could think about, he says, “was trying to convert her.”

Heheh oh yes... the social justice gospel. We know the type.
If the Bible says it, the Bible says it. If you don't like it, too bad. Yes some people take it overboard, and a Christian should love all people. But the Biblical truths cannot be compromised. There are from God, written in His word.

This dude who was briefly a student has been everywhere the past few weeks being interviewed and dropping LU's name. I wish he'd just be quiet about LU since it has little to do with his year of deception. Jesus didn't use deception to get his points across.

For the next year, I will conduct an undercover study in which I "pretend" to be fat. I will eat everything I could ever want and document the ignorantly reluctant looks I get from Golden Corral workers as they clean up my 5th plate.

I would like to spend a year looking really good, but alas, most good looking people are born that way!

LU sometimes does. As well as social conservatives. Just pointing that out.

I read the book and it was poorly written and had '0' editing whatsoever. There are better ways to prove the point he was trying to make than how he went about it, I wouldn't recommend it.

A little bi-curious, are we?

according to the article, no. Which technically doesn't break any of our rules.

I should write a book. Though when you live honestly, there's less drama

L-A-M-E. What a half-efforted way to do an experiment.

I think that it is a mistake to live life thinking that you have to go through what someone else has gone through to feel empathy for that person's situation.
Do I have to spend every night at a bar or drink myself silly to understand the pain an alcoholic may feel? I don't think so.
If anything, that behavior shows that the author has a disconnect where they only learn through experience.
What I don't understand is how spending a year pretending to embrace a particular sin can change the nature of what sin is.

This whole thing is just a publicity stunt. Everything the guy did, including his "LU ties", has been dishonest. I'd even question his stated premise for doing this. The kid wants to be a celebrity, so he stole an idea from some Brown student who "infiltrated" LU for a semester.

I'm personally against the idea of studying people as if they're a pack of chimps and you're Jane Goodall or the 'Gorillas in the Mist' lady.

Don't say that. I need to continue to give my wife a reason to let me keep my beard. "It's for a book that will make us rich!"

Basically I am...and I can't understand it from the outside. I had to become the beard. Life has a different perspective when viewed from a face full of hair.
People look at you different. They ask you where your motorcycle is. They cower in fear. Sometimes they ask if you're "riding the rails" like the hobos of old.
The bearded are shunned in the white collar work community.
I never realized how true this was until I became a bearded man.
