Obviously this is very subjective. But I'd like to hear what people feel are the best Italian restaurants in the Lynchburg area. Try to give us menu suggestions as well if possible.

Malaino's (sp?) in Boonsboro, hands down the best around but Guyatano's (aweful spelling considering i used to work there) was the hands down pick but they closed shop

Dollar for dollar, I like Vinny's. There may be better, but not for the price. Of course, I don't eat a lot of Italian either.

I've only been to Monte Carlo but they say the place next to Osaka's (I can't remembe the name) is like a better Olive Garden. Monte Carlo is as well but I don't know about the other.

I've only been to La Villa and Lori's (aka Lori Vinny's)

La Villa has good stromboli, and Lori's has the best/cheapest Pizza in the area.

Obviously there's olive garden, and it's good.

Once you have had Macaroni Grill, the Olive Garden is not good enough. Vinniy's has the best Spinach/Artichoke Dip in the world! If you go to OIP, then try the cheesy bread sticks. It is like a meal in itself...I need to go to lunch soon.

Almost all of the Mac Grills have closed up down here in Texas. I have always like their Farfalle de Pollo al Sugo Bianco. But for the record, Olive Garden still serves up a solid Fettucini Alfredo with chicken. Some of their newer entrees haven't been all that. AS mentioned int he other thread, if there is a Carrabbas nearby it is really good.

SCAR, I passed OIP today on my way to lunch and was thinking how much better it woulda been than Mexican but we were in a hurry and I knew my roommate wanted Mexican.

I refuse to go to places like Olive Garden just because of the Italian place we have at home. They're from Naples, Italy and the food's flat out amazing to me.

SJ - I second the notion on going out for Italian. I am spoiled in Pittsburgh with all the authentic places where the chef's have a heavy Italian accent. Plus, my grandmother is off the boat and makes the best pasta I have ever tasted.

My grandmother was a Mingori whose hometown in Boretto, Reggio Emilia, Emilia-Romagna in Northern Italy near Parma & Bologna. I definitely inherited the Italiano genes. Buit even mediocre Italian is better than most any other type of food (hence the appreciation for the chains like Olive Garden & Carrabbas). Northern Italian rocks! But Southern Italian (like your friend back in NC from Napoli) is good too with the heavy emphasis on pastas.

My great grandma got off the boat from Palermo, Sicily. The people that run Monte Carlo are actually Sicilian too.

I don't kno wwhy, but if I can get a good stromboli I'm in Heaven.

I'd say La Villa on Timberlake is the best. The food's awesome, servings huge, prices low, and the staff and owner are very friendly.

Agree w/ SLY on the Fettucini Alfredo at Olive Garden- but find me an authentic little Italian shop that has a Calzone the size of my head (huge) and I'm good to go.

A place that employs a "Vinny", "Joey" or even better, a "Vito" is a good start.

Vinny's can fulfill the above request. The calzones are indeed enormous, and Vinny does indeed run the place. However, if you want something as big as your head, I'd highly recommend the "Belly Buster Stromboli".

I ate at a place last night at home that is ran by a guy named Luigi, has a guy named Sal, a girl named Margarita, and other names I can't remember. They're from Naples. It's great.

Vinny's lived up to the billing. Even my 84-year-old grandfather loves the place.

Welcome back Sly. Glad you enjoyed Vinny's. Great hanging out with you and the family. A really nice group of people. Mrs SCAR and I can't wait to see you guys again. Sorry you didn't get to see all things LaHaye (Ice center, student center) but next time we will start there. Football this fall would be fun if you guys got up here again.

Since you guys were out by O'Hare, where did you eat your pizza? Gino's East? Moretti's? Just curious. I love Chicago-style and thinking about it made me hungry.

BTW thanks for the heads up on White House Subs in AC, GMTM. A friend of Scar's & mine took the Sly Fox clan there and it was spectacular. That cheesesteak was probably my finest meal of the entire trip.
