Another cable/dish thread

Now that I'm an old married man and moved in with my wife its time to decide to get D-tv or stick with Comcast. I had D-TV (and love it) but Comcast is currently installed. We're not in a contract so can do whatever.

I cant STAND the current user interface for Comcast although their new X1 system looks nice but I havent heard any talks if it'll be introduced here locally or not. It's pretty much their version of U-Verse or Fios.

Question for Scorcy or other techies....is it possible to keep Comcast but just purchase a 3rd party DVR like Tivo that can use the internet to determine playlists and guides? (I checked on the website and the Comcast Tivo service isnt available yet in the area).

Also another issue is I think we'll have to piggy back off our neighbor (use their structure for our dish too since we're the middle unit on a townhome setup) and she's not the easiest person to get along with so I'm doing everything possible to keep Comcast but have to figure out the DVR setup...heck for all I know Comcast is a lot better and all varies on the equipment you're running...she's running the old school silver box with the red yellow and white inputs on the front. Horrific. Maybe life with Comcast isnt so bad once that gets addressed.

You can use third-party DVRs or computer-based recording systems with Comcast as long as they support CableCards. You cannot do this with Dish/DirecTV.

I'm a huge fan of DishNetwork because it gets MASN for O's and Nats games, and I think it is considerably cheaper than Direct TV.

Why I would love to have satellite: lots of soccer.

Why I'm running at full sprint away from satellite: during the great power outage of 2012, we lived at my parents' house for a week and all we did was watch a stupid show about dirty, poorly-run hotels.

Saw you post this on twitter last night. I am going to assume you weren't in control of the remote.....much like when my mom comes to town and every other show includes a gay guy fixing something or making it "fierce".

And they finally added the MASN HD channels this month, though they're ticking me off with their little pissing match with AMC. Need my Breaking Bad!

I know he has still on his way back from his honeymoon, but GMTM certainly will be more than willing to extol the virtues of DirecTv upon his return.

What's the reasoning behind paying for two nearly identical services? Do you save money on boxes because you have a lot of TVs? I'm genuinely curious.

We can't all be Diamond Jim. Some of us actually have to go to job where we're not the boss. 8)

I own two homes and DISH was much cheaper than DTV, so I thought I would give it a try...

Blwall - Been there... This is the land of opportunity - we can all be Diamond Jim - just got to take the leap... ;)

When I write my memoirs 30 years from now I'm going to give your post credit for what inspired me to achieve all that I have

For anyone that has Comcast please please find out when your account ends, call them up and make those suckers give you a killer deal. I swear they are using Monopoly money and truly just dont care about anything or anyone.

Analyst: We can get you the 105Mbs for the price you need but we cant include Cable and DVR at that rate. We'll send someone out to disconnect your TV
Customer: Wouldnt it cost you more money to send someone out here to only disconnect the service?
Analyst: Please hold.........we will allow you to have the cable at no additional cost.

I swear Comcast is run by a bunch of baboons...they dont know what plans we have locally, what speeds and what prices they should be at. Unreal. Make them pay
