The UVa fiasco

As time goes by the black eye UVa has given itself keeps getting worse and worse. It has come down to the billionaire boys club versus the academics. The boys see UVa retrieiving its alleged greatness by eliminating academic depts and other cost-cutting which somehow will make UVa more attractive to top students. Now there is some magical thinking. If you have not been following here's a good summary to date.

Actually, UVa has Quiz Bowl, and they are awesome.

In state, LU has won against W&M, Tech, GMU, VMI, Radford, and Roanoke, but never against UVa.

Purple, with your expertise, maybe you could help me study Quiz Bowl film. Nobody can break down a team's offense on film like the Haize!

Nor be as offensive. So the next time I can't sleep I'll check it out. Do you record on Beta or VHS?

I like how CJ used the Quiz Bowl sidebar to sidestep the original discussion started by badger74.

The director of the SCHEV spoke last fall in a forum and indicated cuts in institutions including UVa, Tech, and W&M (mentioned them specifically) that would be felt among academic staff and would result in larger class sizes and less research opportunities for faculty. It seems that Sullivan was opposed to changes that have been viewed as some as fiscally responsible. LU folks are no strangers to decisions made due to finances... but at UVa, I'm guessing things will get much uglier before it is over. The director sounded a bit like our Chancellor- even mentioned utilizing online education as a way to combat ever rising tuition costs.

McDonnell I believe enumerated in his speech at Boys State last week that if this wasnt resolved by Tuesday (today), he would ask for all of their resignations on Wednesday.

Agreed...as I said, Governor McDonnell basically gave the board an ultimatum last week so it was either resolve the situation or UVA would be electing an entire new board of visitors at this hour
