yeah, the landscape is changing in me as well, this time last year I was ticked out how bad we looked against a division II school, this year its a different feeling. I am trying to keep myself in check though, I don't want to get too excited only to be let down even harder....after all this is my 4th year at LU, so many disappointment...though I am excited about how the student body seems to be changing. School spirit is something hard to develop at a school like liberty.....and it seems to be happening, which is cool

We recently bought some properties in Lynchburg and plan to retire there in a few years as well as taking trips there a couple of times a year now to check on things with our tenants and relax. My wife and I are college football fans and we were hoping LU would give us a local team to support. The last couple of years were pretty sad and we did not make a game. Now with the new coach and winning attitude we are really excited to have a solid college football program growing in Lynchburg.
Wake Forest will be a challenge but it looks as though a huge step forward has already been taken and the future is much brighter than in the recent past.

As a future permanent resident I am very enthused by how Liberty is growing as a school and in sports. It means positve growth for Lynchburg and a more dynamic and interesting city.

Good luck with the rest of this season. We are very much looking forward to being in town in a couple of weeks.

Welcome to the board, badger74. I agree that Lynchburg is a place I could see myself retiring someday. My grandfather moved up to Lynchburg from Florida this past year and seems pleased.

There is most certainly the best vibe for our team on campus that we've enjoyed in probably a decade. Hopefully the team can deliver what so many of us believe is within their grasp.

Once we heard that Starbucks was opening a few stores there we made the decision to do it. We looked at a number of mid-sized towns with colleges in the South and Southeast from Oxford Miss to C'Ville. Actually we were only looking at C'ville and basically stumbled onto Lynchburg after we found C'Ville both too expensive and not as nice as we expected as to residential areas. We made the short drive down 29 and just found our way over to the Boonsboro area and that was exactly what we wanted--older brick colonial homes with lots of trees and nice lots. Then we did our research on the town and it seemed just right with lots of upside potential. Right now we have a place on Peakland Place and another on Indian Hill. The low prices compared to the west coast make us giddy. Prices have gone up about 35% the last two years but we still hope to buy another house to use as a rental. That will keep us busy in retirement and provide some income.

I envy you guys living in Lynchburg. Lynchburg is a great city. Definately in my top 5 of most desirable places to live with plenty of places to go with that small town charm and scenic beauty. You made a wise choice in choosing Lynchburg.

Finally! A (future) citizen who gets it. I know a few folks on peakland. That is THE place to live if you want to Hobnob it up with the who's who in Lynchburg. In fact the football team's doctor (I'm not sure if they have more than 1) lives over on Peakland. I know this may sound funny but don't let living there change you. I swear that area of town brainwashes people. I think it's a combination of the high amount of money you need to have to get into that area and the super low cost of living of the town in general. It's like the perfect storm of aristocracy. But I digress. That's for the "Lynchburg Life" forum I suppose. Go football!

Well, we were not looking to hob-nob much. I doubt they would welcome a couple of NJ yankees via the west coast with hugs and flowers anyway. We just liked the divided street, the nice homes, and the location. We'll have to hunt around and find some fellow newcomers I suspect as that part of town is pretty "old money", at least in attitude. But that's OK. They were there first.

I was also glad to read they are putting in seats for ice hockey. My school (Wisconsin) has a great hockey tradition and we enjoy the game. More to look forward to.

I have lots of respect for PSU and we have had mostly close games since they joined the Big 10. Why can't they get a decent basketball team going? Being from NJ, I had lots of friends go there.

If you like college hockey, you're really gonna like our team. We're not in the top league (not sure if Wisconsin is) but we're normally pretty good and even when we're not, it's highly entertaining. Our guys love to hit every year.

Looking back several years, MOST of the Stanley Cups have been won by teams outside of the land of danged yankees, including those hot beds of hockey Tampa Bay, Carolina, and yes, Dallas.

Ahh, Wisconsin won the NCAA D-1 men's and women's national hockey championships last year (4th time for the men I think). It's as big as it gets in college hockey. They average around 12,000/game.

As to NJ, I am from the nice part--Hunterdon County near the Pennsy border. Beautiful country not unlike the country around Lynchburg which is one big reason I picked Lynchburg.
