"Moonshiners" on Discovery features the guys that make it and those that try to catch them. Last night's show featured big bust of a Lynchburg private house club that served moonshine and gambling. Who knew??

"nip joints" as they are called are common in moonshine country but to have one right in the city is strange. a lot of illegal gambling and sometimes prostitution. i have a buddy who works for the va. state police and they bust these types of operations all the time in southside va.

I lived in inner-city Lynchburg for 20 years, and while I certainly was never in the market for the goods and services available there, I can tell you that nip joints have always been around in the White Rock, Diamond Hill and College Hill areas as well as lower Rivermont. Most don't sell moonshine, just resell liquor they buy in the ABC store by the drink, after hours and without a license.
