I had him for Theology. Does he still teach at LU? He ran for Campbell County board of supervisors and won his district. He was an interesting fellow when I was in his class, that was for sure.

Campbell County’s incumbents held their ground Tuesday in the Board of Supervisors races.

Supervisors Steve Shockley and Eddie Gunter both won re-election and will be joined by newcomer James “Jim” A. Borland, who was elected to represent the newly created Spring Hill District.

“I'm elated really, humbled to be elected by the citizens to Campbell County [Board of Supervisors] and proud to serve them,” said Borland, who was at the Republican victory celebration near the group’s headquarters Tuesday night.

Borland defeated Lorraine Blanks Potter with more than 60 percent of the vote.

Borland, a Bible and theology teacher at Liberty University said he went door-to-door in his district and believes that made a difference.

“They came because of my policies and because of what I stand for,” Borland said later, in a telephone interview.

He said he will familiarize himself with zoning regulations and the laws affecting his constituents so he can ensure they are right and proper.

Borland repeated his campaign promise on Tuesday night, saying he would not raise taxes in the county unless his constituents demanded it.

Yes, Dr. Borland still teaches at LU and also hosts our Honors picnic every year at his house.

He came to my house to get me to vote for him. I told him I had him for theology. He didn't remember. I'd imagine that's because he's probably had a thousand students since.

I never had him but I remember back in the early '80's he was shot in the leg while hunting. Someone mistook him for a turkey. That was the first I had heard of him while a student.

I had him for some Greek classes. Hardest professor I've ever had.

Wow, haven't heard that name in a while. Always got along with him just fine in classes but a lot of people in the early-mid 90s really disliked him. I did live next door to the secretary at the church that fired him when I lived down there.
