After several weeks of voting, the Cavalier & the iconic Texas Inn battled to a tie. So we have a death cage match ... or at least your stomach may feel that way after you down both of these competitors. But at least you'll have a smile on your face.

Make your pick!

Sly, you better double check your stats. Moore's only got 4 votes and the two dives that tied with 10 votes each were the Cavalier and Texas Inn.

Thanks, CJ. It was late and my brain clearly wasn't engaged. Let's reset the poll and start all over.

Make sure to cast your vote once again to make sure it gets counted.

I took Mrs. Sly to Texas Inn a few years ago and she refused to go inside. It is an over-the-top greasy spoon with a set of patrons to match. But it is an essential element of my LU experience.

I hate to let this one end in a tie. I'll leave this open for another day or two to give folks a chance to decide a winner.

When did The Cavalier open? I don't remember it at all from my time in Lynchburg. I still miss the T-room. Haven't had a Cheesy Western since 1998. I may have to remedy that situation, and see all the campus changes, sometime soon.

During my final year living off campus, the other three guys and I had a house rule. If one of us was up late/woke up at a ridiculous hour, and wanted to go the the Texas Inn, he was allowed to wake up one of the other housemates and they were obligated to go with him. Had a lot of 2am heartburn in my early 20s.

it opened in the 1940's as a general store and has morphed into a nice dive spot. one pool table, ice cold beverages and excellent burgers and seasoned fries. also no credit cards, cash only.

Well, we know what today's word of the day was for you. I'm not sure you used it in the right context though

They make a good Reuben sandwich, too. And for a look inside, go to YouTube:

Amazing. One of my housemates was from Lynchburg, grew up there, and yet I have no recollection of even hearing about the Cavalier.

It's very out of the way for the LU college crowd. It's '03 secluded dive bar.

I'm still going to have to try it the next time I get down there. We lived in that city for 2.5 years, and went out of our way to try everything, but that one seems to have slipped past us. I remember some random coffee house on the water downtown, Jazz Street Grill was our second home on Friday nights, but no Cavalier. Not sure how that happened.

Cavalier is easy to miss...I went there with a friend of mine and we drove past it twice. I think the fact that it doesnt have a big sign adds to the charm somewhat

I have absolutely no idea how the T-Room is beating out the Cavalier... I mean sure you can get a good laugh at the T-Room, but we are talking about man food here.

Cavalier > T-Inn easily IMO...

Texas Inn to open new location in Cornerstone
By: Brent Wells | The Burg
Published: August 10, 2012
Texas Inn is opening another retaurant in Lynchburg: the new one will be off of Greenview in the new Cornerstone housing/business development.

Fans of the Texas Inn’s famed Cheesy Western soon will have an additional location to get their fix.

The landmark restaurant that’s been a Lynchburg institution on Main Street since the mid 1930s will serve customers its trademark fare at a new storefront inside the Cornerstone development off Greenview Drive.

The latest Texas Inn is the first restaurant under construction at the mixed-use project that includes a park, commercial space and hundreds of condos, townhouses and single-family homes.

Plans for commercial development have gotten off to a slow start since the neighborhood opened in 2008. Developers originally hoped the commercial side of the project would encompass the four blocks along its main entrance, but opted last year to include more residential housing in the area rather than just mixed-use buildings.

With a foundation already laid for the new Texas Inn, Cornerstone resident David Schinkle said he’s pleased to see signs of commercial progress in the neighborhood.

“It’s kind of a staple in Lynchburg,” said Schinkle, of the well-known eatery. “More restaurants could bolster the community. I’m excited about the growth.”

Eddie Eagle, owner of the Texas Inn, said this week that he preferred not to comment until more details about the new location are ironed out.
