Glad to hear that the theatre on my side of town will be reopening next month. Anybody been to the ones in C-ville or Staunton?
New Movie Theater Coming to the Plaza

Lynchburg, VA- A new movie theater could soon be moving into the old Carmike Cinemas 8 in the Plaza. There are currently plans to re-open a movie cinema there in mid-August.
Owner of Visulite Cinemas, Adam Greenbaum tells ABC-13 News he's entered an agreement to re-open the movie theater owned by Liberty University. Greenbaum says his company has signed a lease with LU to reopen the movie theater, and hopes to show first run movies, as well as independent films, and foreign films. Greenbaum says he also plans to do some remodeling to the theater by adding some lounge areas.
Visulite Cinemas currently has two movie theaters in Staunton and one in Charlottesville

I finally get my wish of a theater that will run independent and foreign films! Looks like this theater would easily be their biggest. The other theaters they own are one, two, and five screen.

Yeah. I live in Harrisonburg and have worked in Staunton in the past. The theater is a tiny one. I have never been there because of the power house regal and the fact that I hate the movie industry when it comes to watching in movie theaters. $10 to see a movie?
hopefully It will do well so they can stay in the space and pay LU.

Lynchburg to get new movie theater

A new movie theater is coming to Lynchburg.
Staunton-based chain Visulite Cinemas, which runs two theaters there, as well as Vinegar Hill in Charlottesville, will set up shop in The Plaza’s old Carmike 8 building next month.
Owner Adam Greenbaum said they’ve been looking to expand to Lynchburg for awhile and began talks with the building’s owner Liberty University after the Carmike closed in April.
“It’s a natural progression, geographically,” he said. “(And) Lynchburg excites me because you have all of these mainstream movies represented, but there’s not really a substantial outlet for other movies. A big part of the market was missing here.”
Their plan is to show first-run, mainstream movies and independent and foreign films on seven screens.
“It’s our biggest theater to date,” Greenbaum said. “With that many screens, we have the opportunity to show an array (of films).”
They are currently renovating the building to include several lounge areas, and one screen will be reserved for live events, such as concerts or stand-up comedy, he said.

This could raise some interesting issues. I do not know the answer but just wondered if LU would have any issues with some of the films that might be shown (say hard R or unrated foreign films) or is business kept separate from on campus regulations?

That is an interesting question. Keep in mind the conservative tendencies of the buying public in Lynchburg. But I have no idea whether the terms of the lease place restrictions on the films that can be shown.

I don't see any way they could rent out the theater if they restricted the movies like that. They are already going to be fighting the dollar movies and the new theater in town. Also that would just be dumb for Lib to try and do something like that.
