Anybody been to the Spring House restaurant on 460 East? They are now advertising a special on Thursday nights: Live Bluegrass and BBQ.

Now that sounds intriguing. While I won't ever be caught jamming to Bluegrass while tooling around Houston, I must admit that sounds like a fun evening for the family.

I went there a few years ago for a co-worker's 30th anniversary celebration. This was more of a catering situation with about 100 people, so they didn't offer the full menu, but I really enjoyed what I had, which was fried chicken and all the fixins, country style.

I've been there, it's really good. Similar to the Home Place in Catawba or Salem House in Salem if you're familiar with either of those locations.

I'm thinking about hitting it up next Thursday night after our annual Faculty Quiz Bowl scrimmage(Fumble would have loved it).

Its basically across the street from me!! Their food is AWESOME!! Home made and family style. They had a Beatles tribute band there last Saturday that was really good. I would say they MIGHT have a buffet for the "Bluegrass" night which would be fine, but go sometime when you can order off the menu. YUM!!

They are Liberty connected, with that said I'm sad to say I've had some pretty bad experiences there

Been there 3 times under the current management. Good food each time. Last time was for the lunch buffet - while the selection was pretty limited, the food was still very good.

Made the treck down 460 East to hear some great "Grass to the Bone" bluegrass. But I have mixed reviews about the restaurant. I called them Thursday to inquire about the music/menu, and they said the band couldn't make it until
Friday. So I delayed my trip to Friday and showed up about 6:45 with a friend from church. It took them forever to even bring me an iced tea and a menu, even though there were maybe less than a dozen customers in the whole restaurant.
When I placed my order for Virginia BBQ, the server came back a few minutes later to say they were OUT of BBQ (at 6:50 on a Friday night!). So I switched to flounder, which was a small portion but some of the best tasting fish I ever had. We also got 5 vegetables--mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, mac & cheese, cole slaw, and sweet potato caserole--for $14.00 and they were all good. And dessert was included: peach cobbler with ice cream.
So what was the problem? On the bill, they added an unadvertised $5 "cover charge" per person for the music. Since I invited my friend, I covered his meal, too, so the bill was $41 for the two of us. With tip, i paid almost $50 for an hour of bluegrass and some good (not BBQ) food.
