So does anybody have the lowdown with the plans for a Film School at LU in light of all of the recent announcements? I have people coming to me to find out what the plans might be and I am completely out of the loop.
Anybody?

I have heard Gresham had told a number of folks on campus this week that he'd have some interest in helping with the development of an LU Film School. That's all I have but I thought it was interesting to note.

that's probably enough to make it happen right there. there's a board of trustees meeting going on now so if anyone wants it to happen (which I cant see why anyone wouldn't) find a trustee and talk to them! or hopefully they read the board too! a film school would be awesome! the aviation program shouldn't cost so much more than everything else! the government program is good! linguistics should be a major and not just a minor! there should be way more foreign languages offered! especially ones useful to missions and government majors! (Russian, Urdu, Arabic, Pushtu, more mandarin, some African languages etc.)
just my short list of academic suggestions in case any of them (besides/ including our AWESOME chancellor) are reading this.

My Coms teacher last year polled my class of about 50 to see if anyone was interested in a film degree related to the school of communication. About 10 people in the class raised there hands. He also said there were in talks with a couple of guys from Hollywood but a film degree would not be around for a while. However, this could have changed.....

I would suspect that a film school would be a split from the School of Communications. But that's just a guess based on how things typically work at most schools.

Certainly would be nice to have more Christ followers in all outlets of media - film obviously reaches millions and this could be another tool Liberty can use to further the mission. Would still love to see a dedicated business building though - a plush shiny new business building with an entrepreneurship major would be amazing - imagine the next .com billionaire being a Liberty grad (or drop out)

I'd think a film school at a credible Christian college would have a huge draw.

Alumnus prepares for movie premiere in Tower Theater
March 8, 2011 : Liberty University News Service
The Potential Inside, an independent Christian film produced by Liberty University alumnus Scotty Curlee (’96) will premiere Thursday, March 10 at Liberty’s Tower Theater.
The award-winning inspirational film featured several Liberty students and alumni as cast and crew members, and many of the scenes were filmed on Liberty’s trail system and at Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre.
The family-friendly movie tells the life story of a professional mountain biker and coach. Curlee said the goal was to produce a quality, inspirational film on the same scale as the recent Christian films Fireproof and Facing the Giants.
The film will be released on DVD worldwide on April 19.
Read a story about Curlee here.

Since when? You've always been the guy to pop up in the middle of a group of people.

I dont know...when I feel surrounded (like it can get leaving convo or church) its kinda overwhelming. I saw some of a friend's pictures from the premier and it looked pretty packed in that hallway outside the theater.

He did draw up a defense with 9 players on the field in Coaching Football.

Apparently there will be an announcement of some kind in regard to the film school in today's convo. I'm having to head to the airport early due to expected lengthy security lines today as I fly to Canada. So I would greatly appreciate a summary.

I cant recall all the details but basically the film school is launching this fall and there is a possibility of partnering with a school in AZ to maybe have students from the film school here spend a year there.

It is based off of the Zaki Gordan Institute for Independent film making in Arizona. It is a one year film school that I'm assuming will be a specialization in communications. It is very intense as they described in convo....
Monday- 8 hour film synopsis, that night write scripts for a 5 minute film
Tuesday- Preproduction for the film like getting actors and what not
Wednesday- Filming
Thursday- Show your footage to your professor and begin editing
Friday- Editing and show your film at a mini film festival Friday night
Saturday- Seminars involving the nitty gritty of film like distribution and how to get approval to film at a location.
He also stated that there will be 20 to 40 kids and it will start this September.
