It angered me. I wrote Delta a verynasty letter. My next trip to town was on the last day they have service so no flight back to Atlanta. Hope somebody else steps up. What I heard was that the jets they were using were too expensive to run. So trade them for some turbo-props.

delta is a joke...rated one of the worst airlines in america. US Air is not much better, so im sure they will raise their fares here. i only fly out of lynchburg for work anyway. It is well worth the drive to raleigh or richmond to fly jet blue or southwest IMO.

It's time to make a stand... The airport needs some big changes and it starts from the top. Leadership is spending more time buying billboards in this market, then aggressively trying to attract more carriers. People will use the airport, but can't if there are no flights to take, regardless of the cost. I'm sick of driving everywhere to fly out or flying south to go North. Pick up next Lynchburg Business - there will be a very good story in there about the Airport situation. I will be leveraging my resources trying to gain some momentum for change and hope Liberty will also.

I agree completely. I've never flown out of Lynchburg, and only Roanoke once to go to Chicago. I tend to fly out of Raleigh b/c I have a huge loyalty to Southwest airlines right now.

For the destinations I have flown to, US Air has consistently been so much cheaper from LYH that I have only used Delta once. I am a bit worried that US Air will jack up their prices now. I've flown a lot out of Raleigh, mainly for price reasons, but I have to say I enjoy getting a 15 minute ride to the airport from a friend here rather than driving over 2 hours to Raleigh, parking and catching a shuttle to the terminal, and then doing it in reverse coming back. Parking and gas for a 10 day trip from RDU also adds over $100 to the cost.

The issue is not whether you like Delta or not. Let's be honest (I travel a lot) - I could care less about the service. I want options of flights and want to leave/arrive close to schedule. Delta leaving is a HUGE blow, not because USAirways will jack up their rates (I don't know that they will, because at the end of the day they are competing against Roanoke, Greensboro, etc...), but it again lowers our marketability to the other carriers.

i care about the service. both us air and delta are horrible for all the instances i have traveled out of lynchburg. continual non-weather related delays, bad attitude attendants etc. sure its a blow to lynchburg to lose delta, and most definitely lowers marketability, but service is important.

I've flown probably once a month while living in Tampa. Not once have I had a trip end on time.
