That's according to the National Geographic, largely due to our own Snowflex on campus!
Adventure Town: Lynchburg, Virginia
Plan a long weekend getaway with our Lynchburg adventure guide, featuring great outdoor escapes, where to stay, and where to eat.

Lynchburg's Snowflex is the only year-round outdoor, artificial snow sports slope in the United States.

It is not the first time this has happened ...

2007 Thread

From an outdoors perspective, Lynchburg is legitimately deserving of this honor. Sometimes because you are right up amongst the trees, it is tough to recognize all of the awesome outdoors opportunities that you have around you. Outside of surfing & skimboarding, what can you not find a way to do outdoors from a recreational sports perspective around Lynchburg? It is one of the big reasons why I'd love to return.

Consider climbing the unique Trestles: three abandoned sandstone towers constructed as the foundation of an 1850s railroad bridge. They reach as high as 70 feet (21 meters), with a 5.11b difficulty grade—and are right next to a relaxing swimming hole for post-scrambling cool-offs. Lynchburg is also a hiker's paradise.
Where is that? I've never heard of it. And I want to do it.
