Liberty University is asking the city to scrap its plans for a new Wards Road crosswalk in favor of building a pedestrian bridge.
LU, whose students are the catalyst for the project, first suggested it was interested in re-evaluating the city’s 2009 Wards Road pedestrian plan about three months ago.
As it stands, the plan calls for a series of crosswalks and a greenway to be built along the length of Wards Road. Construction of phase one was set to begin this year, but that work was postponed at LU’s request.

As a driver, I favor the bridge. Those lights are obnoxious enough to me, let alone having to wait for crossing lights. However, I'd hate to spend a ton of money on one, when, I think it was Badger, who said that studies show pedestrians will just ignore them.

And now they're fighting over whether or not LU should have a sign on the bridge:

Personally, I agree with the mayor, if there's going to be a sign let it say both Lynchburg and Liberty. Maybe LU's at the ends and "Welcome to Lynchburg" in the middle. Then again, we are trying to move away from using LU...
Alternate idea: have the signage be advertising space and make $$$ off of it.

I hate to agree with Mayor Pelosi on anything but if the city pays for the bridge then we shouldn't put our signs all over it. Besides, everybody knows who that bridge will belong to.
I know I might get in trouble for this but my fears about the LU monogram have come true. I really didn't like it at first, and its just added more fuel to fire ever since.
And agree 100% with atrain's idea.

Or maybe we should just try to make it look nice and not a billboard.
