Why am I not shocked to see this book receiving attention in Arkansas?

Most of us have experienced the pain from a bunion, hammertoe or a fallen arch. Many of those conditions occur from wearing an ill-fitting shoe.

One Virginia professor has started a movement that embraces a barefoot lifestyle and the health benefits from doing so.

Liberty University professor Dr. Daniel Howell has written a book to talk about the benefits of not wearing shoes at all.

It's called the "Barefoot Book." Howell, believes the sole solution to preventing chronic feet problems, like bunions, hammertoes and fallen arches.

I had him for A&P, seemed like a cool guy, he even tried to stand up for LU at the Richard Dawkins event over at Randolph-Macon. He ended up sounding kinda scared and bewildered, but I would have never had the guts to do it.

Dr. Daniel Howell, associate professor of Biology, spent his summer promoting his book, “The Barefoot Book: 50 Great Reasons to Kick Off Your Shoes."

“It wasn’t like a traditional book tour,” said Howell, who drove the entire trip himself, covering 21 states in 21 days and 5,412 miles, doing various TV interviews, book signings and presentations. He also did the tour just as his book prescribed — with his shoes off. At the time of this interview in early August, Howell had remained shoeless since May 15.

“Oddly enough,” said Howell, “My most successful events were at running-shoe stores.”
