FF Blotter

Two of my LU/highschool friends were visting from NoVa and got held up at gun point on Saturday night/Sunday morning during the power outage off of Sussex Street outside of another LU/high school friends' house. The thugs didn't get anything, but my friends were pretty shook up about it.

The cops told them that that was the second attempted armed robbery/armed robbery of the night in that area and that (according to my friends) one of the officers said there wasn't much they could do, and that they would just have to wait until they got caught.

Sounds like Lynchburg City Council should open the checkbook again for law enforcement, or at least approve some overtime, but that's a different issue.

Long story short, watch yourselves out there, get your Concealed Carry license, and start packing.

When my wife was doing some searching for facts on Lynchburg awhile back, one of the things that startled her was that Lynchburg had double the national crime rate. As someone who lives in Houston, we already live "on guard" but this should be a reminder that everyone needs to be cautious.

as a general rule of thumb, you don't want to live north of where memorial branches off of fort until you get to Rivermont.

And then not until about halfway up Rivermont.

Must have been a while back, because Lynchburg ranks among the lowest lowest crime rates of any larger municipality in Virginia.

i could probably look this up but oh well...

Is it illegal to discharge a handgun within Lynchburg city limits. i have no problems pulling the trigger for a warning shot or a kill shot. i am just curious.

Well, it's illegal to burn leaves. I like to make my assumptions of Lynchburg based on that.

in texas it's illegal to burn just about anything....we are a dry state.

That's just during a drought.

And just because Lynchburg is among the lower crime rates in Virginia, it doesn't mean that it can't also be double the national rate.

Second murder of the year in Lynchburg...also near Sussex...I hope my friends move soon. I have another friend that lives on Lakewood, three doors down from where the body was found. He heard the gun shots and called the cops. They took his statement yesterday. The body was a mile away from the initial shooting, but it is unacceptable to me that the police could not find the body until the morning when it was called in. Guess they never got trained on how to use the flood lights.
