Lynchburg, VA - Liberty University (web) and the City of Lynchburg say they want to get it right, when installing a pedestrian tunnel and a proposed walkway across Wards Road.
The groundbreaking was set to take place this September, but now they're stepping back and targeting next summer.

Pedestrian upgrades for Wards Road are being postponed pending a review of some new ideas raised by Liberty University.
LU, whose students are the primary motivation for these improvements, says it feels there may be a better way to approach the problem of how to safely ferry pedestrians from one side of the busy Wards Road corridor to the other.
“We want to take a good hard look at whether this still makes sense before we spend all this money,” LU Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said Wednesday. “... Once we found out (that the city had its project funded), we decided we should slow down and take a look at what the safest way to do this is.”
