Best of Lynchburg '10 is Underway

Beginning June 1st, we'll be bringing back our annual tribute to the best Lynchburg has to offer. Recognizing that businesses come & go, it'd be great if you would nominate any new favorites that have appeared since last summer's poll. And if you know of any favorites that are no longer with us, give me a heads up so I can keep them out of this year's options.

Sly, I was actually thinking about your famous lists yesterday and was hoping they would come back again in '10.

Summertime is the perfect time for our obligatory polls.
As for grocery stores, I am game.

People say the new Krogers in Forest is amazing. I haven't been, but Mrs. Cider says it's the size of a Wal-Mart.

yes that new kroger is legit. multiple chefs on staff, wine consultants/connoisseurs, nice little coffee shop, hot bar, cold bar, bistro, etc. and you get through checkout pretty quickly.

Just an FYI, there is no "s". I don't know why people around here put an "s" on the end of Kroger (not just you Cider).
Some of them also tend to do this with Wal-Mart.
It like saying you attend Libertys.
Carry on.

Actually the company marketed itself as Kroger's when many of us were young. CJ & I grew up with the stores along the Ohio River and the 'S' was part of their ad campaigns.

market at main is a new reataurant downtown which is very good. a new restaurant also opened up this past weekend called Cityview at the top of the Bank of the James Building in the old Piedmont Club, but obviously too new to add to the list.

Market at Main is good stuff

Did you go to the Cityview opening this weekend? I am kinda curious to check it out. Do they have a full menu or is it just bar food and such? I thought it was trying to be more of a night club type thing.

well it can't be "too much" of a night club or it could not stay open due to those Virginia Laws about percentage of alcohol to food sales. i do know that the chef from 202 in roanoke left there the bceome the chef at cityview.

I'd like to suggest a new category: The best-place-to-get-lunch-and-be-back-on-campus-in-an-hour-so-you-aren't-late-for-your-modular.
Bonus points for nominations within walking distance

Easiest place to walk to is probably Madaco's, or Pueblo Viejo.

Has anybody noticed that on Fort ave, a japanese place opened up in the old pizza hut building, which is literally located right next door to an identical japanese place? I bet they hate each other.

Yeah, that's hilarious. I think Lynchburg is going to start having some Triad gang wars soon.

Last call for nominations ... I'll be posting the polls later today/tonight depending on time.

If we are adding a grocery store category I need the options spelled out for me.
And if you know the name of the new Japanese joint on Fort Avenue, I'll add it as well.
