So within the last week there has been either a live or dead sighting of a coyote, fox, and bobcat within 5 minutes of my house, all within the city of Lynchburg. anyone else seen any other similar type mountain/woodland creatures in the city? i'd seen a few foxes, but I'd never seen a bobcat live in its natural habitat before today - luckily it was dead.

I live just outside the city, like literally a mile, and I see coyotes all the time. My dogs liked to chase them.

I have all 3 on my property...I'm in the city but very close to the campbell line
I think there still is a bounty for any coyotes you kill. Those suckers sound like a bunch of Indians at night screaming when they make a kill....crazy

Not for the bobcat.
Seriously, though, there was an article on the news tonight about a
family of bobcats living in some guy's attic.

I did an appraisal down in Patrick County one time where the guy said there was a bear and two cubs that came on his property on a regular basis.
So what did he do?
He set out food for them to feed them in an attempt to make them bigger so that he could go hunting for the mom once the cubs were full grown.
Yay rednecks.

Yes I know, I like bobcats, I just don't want to be within 10 feet of a live one in it's natural habitat. I'm pretty sure I would get torn up by that thing.

I had a bobcat in my camp at night once when hiking in the Monongahela National Forest in WV. The noise they make sounds like a screaming 12-year-old girl.
Never had a coyote, only heard them.
Have had bears killed near my home in WV, one hit by a car.
And, plenty of snakes!

Why do I hear dueling banjos playing in my head whenever I read this thread?
I have mostly raccoons, opossums, armadillos & skunks sneaking around my house here in Houston. Back when I lived in South Texas, I had gators as well as javelinas on a regular basis.

Javelinas are not to be trifled with ... when cornered they are mean hombres.

On a related note, Lynchburg police put down a nuisance bear off Wigginton road on Sunday night.

I drove down there to get a picture (I wasn't gonna walk) but the flash just reflected off my car windows. I certainly wasn't gonna put them down.

apparently he works for minimum wage
I am, however- concerned about possible complaints from PETA: no hardhat, gloves, or reflective vest.

Says the guy who apparently has a bear den in his yard their so common on his property. It must be all of those single engine pilot bears.

When I was at LU, I ran the trails on the mountain alone all the time, mostly in the afternoon-evening hours. I can't tell you how many foxes, coyotes, bears (just a couple of these), bobcats, and all sorts of snakes I saw up there. I still can't believe that I did all of that running alone without a cell phone. Ahh, to be young and stupid agian!

HMO, i'm trying to take a bear with my bow this year... I know yall have that bear that runs the power line over to LU and back... I might have to ask your dad if he minds if I try for it : D from what i understand, that's a pretty good sized bear too.
oh, and yes, there are coyotes in the city. buddy of mine saw one on wards ferry the other night (like 2 am) eating something in a front yard. i expect they will get worse until citizens are allowed to do something about them. not being able to discharge firearms or bows in the city without a permit certainly puts a damper on being able to cut down on the varmint population...
