Candlers Station

LU is buying Candlers Station! The N&A says that LU is already in talks with potential tenants.

Let me make a prophetic statement: Hobby Lobby WILL be coming to Candlers Station ASAP. It only makes sense. Hobby Lobby's owner is the one who gave TRBC North Campus. It also makes sense that LU would have contacted some potential tenants to fill the shopping complex (which the article confirms). If I were a betting man, I would say that Jerry Jr. has already been in communications with David Green to bring Hobby Lobby to the Burg! This would be great for the local economy.

Will rated R movies still be played at Movies 10?

all leases will be honored. Jr. is talking to businesses to fill the unoccupied spaces and when the shopping center "life" has ended it will more than likely turn into campus use.

that was my exact first thought about R rated movies. I doubt they're gonna boss Movies 10 around. That's probably the best tenant they have.

I'm surprised that the plaza has been generating a good amount of money. I guess when it's free that makes things easier.

Where is this located as far as being to LU campus? Remember I don't get there often to the campus. I know there is a shopping center across from the railroad track out the back of campus, is this it?

Thanks

Does this include Toys R us and that shoe place? I'm assuming not.

I wonder if at least a small part of this was to create more parking for Campus Church on Wednesday and TRBC services on Sunday?

Anyone know if LU has plans to buy the townhouses that are in between North Campus and Candler's Station?

Also, no comments on N&A but WDBJ7 has a few for your entertainment.

After a few comments, someone at the N&A blocked any further commenting. I appreciate the move- their website has become the forum for meaningless drivel, with every negative story being turned into an anti-Liberty forum. The editors might hate the school, but maybe they realize that most people are beginning to see the site as nothing more than a LU hate blog... except the sports page!

I haven't read very many negative LU stories in the N&A about LU, but maybe that's just me. I've certainly not seen anything the indicates "hate" for LU from editors over there.

That doesn't have anything to do with the comments there, though. They are, for the most part, pointless and usually negative. It can be a little frustrating being on this side, but I'm a big boy. I've been on the Internet for a long time. There's much worse (about LU and in general) out there. Aside from profanity, threats and the like, I don't see why the newspaper should censor anything. That's just me, though.

I'd say that there are very few positive articles/editorials about LU in the paper. Most of the articles are neutral, many of the editorials seem negative. I'm OK with both, but I've been surprised by the direction that the paper let the commenting take. Just my opinion, though.

Call me old school, but isn't that what news articles should be? Just the facts, please.
rogers3 wrote:...many of the editorials seem negative.
Yeah, I admit that I don't pay attention to the editorials. Opinion pieces seem like a waste of time to me. So if a lot of the editorials are negative, I'd expect them to put some balance out there. I really don't pay attention to them though.

I mean, as long as it isn't anything abusing the technology (one person lots of similar comments under different names, for example), illegal, nonsensical or patently vulgar I don't know why the newspaper wouldn't allow a comment. Even if all of the comments were negative toward LU, if they're not any of those things, what do we care? It's the Internet. At this point I'd say we're just lucky we haven't drawn the attention of 4chan.

Exactly what has been happening. Don't forget, it wasn't long ago that the paper had a regular commenter that was arrested for threatening JF's life. At one time, the paper had some decent editorial discussions and comments. Now, the paper has had to take to closing forums because of the vitriol in the comments.
