Liberty acquires local aviation business for School of Aeronautics
December 18, 2009 : Mitzi Bible

Liberty University School of Aeronautics has already soared higher than expectations, growing from four students to more than 200 in the last seven years. Liberty announced today that the acquisition of a local aviation business will take the largest flight school in the Commonwealth of Virginia even higher.

Effective Jan. 1, 2010, the School of Aeronautics will acquire the facilities and equipment of Falwell Aviation, located at Lynchburg Regional Airport.

This purchase will put the aeronautics program steps ahead of its already aggressive plans to build a facility of its own at the airport, said Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr.

So does this mean they're going to scrap the plans of building facilities at Lynchburg Regional?

Falwell airport has one of the most dangerous runways I've ever seen, although to my knowledge there hasn't been any crashes there.

I think HMO's house is like at the end of that runway. That sounds terrifying.

The runway really isnt dangerous at all....its odd and you'll never see another like it but there hasnt been a problem because of it from the millions of landings that have taken place.

This is a very interesting move. It's been in the works for quite a while because as you can imagine this was a very unique deal that takes time to work out.
